Can F@H run out of projects?

Just curious as over the past 6 days my station with a single rx 580 completes about 70 a week and currently i have 700k points, just now i noticed that it is now taking longer and longer to find a new project to start folding. Just wondering if this is the cause of there being less and less work-cycles as we approach winter and workers increase.

Check your logs. They should give you a hint if it is the client or the server side.

 

If you’ve completed 70 work units (WU) with a RX 580 and only have 700,000 points you might not have a passkey yet and aren’t getting the Quick Return Bonus. 10,000 points per WU is way too low for a 580. You should be earning 300,000 points per day.

 

Are you folding on the CPU as well as the GPU?

And no, Stanford will not run out of Projects or Work Units to run on free computing resources. The Statistics Servers do go down once in a while but the Scheduling and Assignment Servers are much more stable.

 

Really Old GPUs May have trouble getting WUs as they don’t support the more modern “cores” but the 580 should be fine

i only fold on gpu and client will finish a wu then like rn it will say ready for about 10-20min

If the O/C is too high it will return that and a message "Are you overclocked" (perhaps only if your logging at the highest verbosity/level). Your likely close if some WUs work and some don't. I've seen that were an O/C worked for a few days then started failing.

The only thing out if the blue is the other day I had a bright idea to stream bo4 and mine at full load for 5 hours the other day to raise awareness of folding at home. I was getting 120 fps in bo4 and gained like 16 Wu during stream.

Sometimes factory overclocks (stock speeds) can cause issues. See this post.

Try downclocking it

Could be insufficient power headroom - try lowering the power limit (-30 or so).

Bad or flakey Power Connector

How Hot is your GPU? If your above 80C try removing a side of the case and/or reducing the power

Try a different AMD Driver

 

If that doent work then create an account at the folding forums and supply them with the whole log.

i cant afford to be messing with my gpu at all rn. My current day job is youtube and twitch, and low income means cant risk buying a new gpu. If something is wrong with it I dont want my warranty  out the window. My max gpu temp ever is when i stream, play, and fold. The max is 69c. my cpu max is 40c. I dont fold on cpu. I tried different drivers.

I understand that this system working is necessary for your livelihood but Lowering the GPU clock by 100MHz will not affect your ability to stream nor will it affect your warranty. Worse case, you can just turn it back up.

 

Sounds like you’ve covered your bases in trying to fix this.

 

If you notice a correlation between specific WUs and the issue then it’s likely the clocks.  If it’s sporadic across all WUs then it could be a sign the GPU is starting to have issues or the Power Supply.

 

Have you run any updates or made any hardware changes since before this started?

 

Have you moved your GPU into a different slot?

 

You could always try removing and reinstalling all your memory, GPU & Periphials and the motherboard and GPU power connectors.

Google the AMD specs for the reference model of your card and set it to this. This will likely bring you down about 5fps but help FAh to be stable.

Also: OC or Downclocking in general can't hurt your GPU (unless you do custom vBIOS and shit). you can always revert everything with a single push of a button in afterburner
