Should I return my RTX 2080

With the recent topic about RTX 2080 Ti failing way too much. I wonder if I should return my RTX 2080 to avoid the same destiny. Or is this the issue only with 2080 TIs?

First of all, the greatest majority of 2080 Ti's are not breaking, it's just a bit more than the usual which is still a red flag that nVidia rushed it a bit too much.

 

RTX 2080 hasn't shown this 'spike' in defective models yet.

 

Even if your GPU ends up dying it makes no sense returning it in advance as any warranty will still have you covered.

It doesn't make any sense to return it if it's not having performance issues.  Unless this is more of a buyers remorse issue.

 

Just because someone on the internet had a vault engine doesn't mean you return your car just in case.

As someone who had a failure myself and was trying to get mine to work with alot of others with similar issues I wouldn't return it unless you notice issues. The big spike is mostly do to people having the cards dead on arrival specifically crashing in games. Mine would crash after a certain amount of time in game usually around 10 to 30 mins and I originally thought it was driver issues but when I contacted msi they said I should return it to the retailer first as this wasn't a driver issue but a bad card. Got my second card and have had 0 issues besides a very occasional crash like maybe once a week which that is likely a driver issue. If you have your card crashing very often then I would return the card but if not you should be fine. If it does fail you can simply RMA  the card and get a new one.

I bought 2080 coz I had to choose either 1080ti or 2080 as my previous card broke. Since the prices in my country are more or less the same I went with 2080. I am asking this here as I waited 30 freaking days for the warranty claim  to be resolved and dont want to go through another one again this soon.

Are you from US? if you RMA an article the manufactures have to give you a new one? Here in Europe they 1st try to repairdit and then if not possible replace it.

You do realize that we have NO FREAKING IDEA if your card is good or bad, right?  May as well ask your mom.

 

No, they don't have to give you a new one.  They can repair, or give you a repaired one, or a new one.  Read the warranty fine print.

If it's the same issue as mine they will replace it. Most of the issues people have been having are simply bad cards not some sort of point of failure that can be fixed.

most of the problems are on the 2080 ti, 2080 seems pretty normal from what i've read, im contemplating whether i should just downgrade my preorder to a 2080 myself, there are no guarantees that functioning TIs won't have short lifespan either.

if it's a known defective product (2080 ti) which can be returned to the retailed without going through warranty,i'd do so, but he has a 2080 so it should be fine.

Yeah I simply returned mine to the retailer and got a new one. That being said you shouldn't do that unless you're is defective as it isn't all 2080tis just some.
