AD500X with no soundcard?

Alexinhooooo

Hello all.

Just a very quick question. I've read a lot of reviews about the AD500X headphones and they seem like they're what I'm looking for. I just wanted to know if I'd be losing a lot of performance by not having a soundcard to connect them to. For reference my motherboard is a MSI Z170A pro gaming carbon.
Thanks.

I guess it will be fine. Modern gaming boards have pretty ok DACs and amps.

They may be a little quieter than you would like but they should work.聽 My HARX-900 where a bit quiet running them through on board SupremeFX.

As most modern mobos have pretty decent DAC and amp sections, driving an easy to drive pair of can like the AD500X聽 to loud enough volume should not be an issue. But then, it really depends on the listener, I listen at a moderate volume level, and it is loud enough for me. I have a friend who listens to music at near ear bleeding levels, that volume is just right for him, but for me, I couldn't take that loudness for more than a few seconds. So really, unless the onboard DAC lacks the decoder/codec for certain audio formats (like DSD) and/or is unable to drive a headphone to appropriate loudness for the listener, then onboard/mobo audio should be fine.
