Ryzen RAM limitations in regard to number of DIMMS

Quickfire question:  Have the more recent microcode/BIOS/AGESA updates for Ryzen 1st-gen boards alleviated the occasional poor performance when all 4 RAM slots are filled?  Thinking of doubling my RAM with the same memory kit to run a couple VMs.

It's not a Ryzen limitation. The exact same behaviour occurs on Intel boards too. Any time you have all four dimm slots occupied you will be limiting your maximum overclock compared to a two dimm configuration. This is the reason you will see a handful of overclocking boards specifically cut half of the RAM slots from the board.

this wont happen with factory memory speeds

Ah, I see, then it was my misunderstanding then, thank you for clearing that up.  If that's the case then, how much of a problem might it be if I want to OC my 1700 from stock?

It shouldn't be an issue unless you are overclocking the RAM. Of course overclocking the CPU will potentially also limit what your RAM can do.
