Help me a pick an ipad?

charbel1011

So my mom's ipad has been really old like she the first or second generation ipad that came out 8 years ago imagine? it's super slow and i see her all the time suffering from it. she only uses it to surf internet. facebook. and etc. I wanna surprise her with a brand new ipad because she deserves it. But im a college student and i work 2 jobs and i barely keep up with myself. Any good suggestion that's not expensive 300$+? thank you.

An iPad 9.7 5th generation would work nicely and not too pricey depending on the amount of storage you get.

How about a Chromebook? It has a real keyboard and is really easy for old people to use. Here's one for $200

Apple currently sells the 2018 iPad for $329. Its basically an iPad Air body and screen but with the A10 Fusion, 2GB of RAM and 32GB base storage.

iPad 2018 /(6gh Gen) is a really great one. Plenty performance, and will be updated for several Years. 32gb if it's enough, or 128gb.

It also does support the Apple Pencil or Logitech Crayon.

Otherwise, maybe a (2nd Hand?!) iPad 2017 (5th Gen). still veery decent, but no Apple Pencil support. And 1 year older = slightly slower + 1 year less updates in the future. But if the Price difference is big enough, go for it.

My mom still has an iPad.. 3? since 6 years or so, it still works fine for her, and she doesn't need a new one. ^^

And btw: Yea, if you have enough Budget for an iPad 2018 (or at least 2017), every other Android Tablet becomes irrelevant. iOS on Tablets is just SO much better than Android. Optimization for the UI, Performance, Updates, App Ecosystem etc.

I would not bother with Android there at all, except it has to be a super cheap one. But as soon it goes up to 300 bucks.. iPad, hands down.

There's been a few comments regarding the 5th/6th Gen iPad, as well as the iPad Air 2. Here's an article comparing them: https://appleinsider.com/articles/18/03/28/compared-the-new-2018-sixth-generation-ipad-with-apple-pencil-support-versus-the-2017-ipad-and-ipad-air-2

Personally, I'd rule out the Air 2, unless she has trouble with her current iPad's portability, or if you're able to get a really good deal. In general, I'd expect the 5th gen iPad to be the best deal, since their prices tanked hard when the 6th gens got their Pencil support announced. If you go used, all of these should be under $300 (For reference, I was able to get a 32GB 6th gen iPad w/ Applecare+ for $250 off Craigslist at the beginning of the school year). Maybe go for the 6th gens if she seems like she'll use the Pencil?
