Alternate ways to attach coolers

Essentially my issue is that have lost the attachment that allows the CPU fan to stay on the CPU. I’ve currently the computer on its side with the fan sat on the CPU but the lightest knock makes it fall over. Any possible solution other than trying to rebuy the specific part?

can you use a ziptie?

Hmm. That would be one heck of a zip tie contraption but it might be worth a try

Are you saying that your fan doesn't have a way to attach to your heat sink anymore?

If that's the case and you don't feel like buying the little metal brackets, make one from a few paper clips or like @whoisit1118 said use zip ties.

I would just go buy a cheap replacement. If you are using the stock one you can get a slightly upgraded cooler for like 15 bucks.

Nono. My problem is that the heat sink can’t attach to the cpu. The part that connects to the backplate to the heatsink is gone. It’s an AM3+ Motherboard so it’s not just as easy as pushing it into the correct slot

Now just salvage the rest and chances are you just upgrade whatever you were running before for less than $250.

Here is what I mean. The second connector is missing

The plastic bracket is included with the motherboard and not the cooler. It's the same for all AM3+ motherboards and they're pretty easy to find for sale. https://www.amazon.com/Uxcell-a13121900ux0265-Plastic-Bracket-Screws/dp/B00KHSM4UY/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1540500053&sr=1-1&keywords=am3+plastic#customerReviews

A ziptie could work but getting the tension correct might not be easy.
