$1200 upgrade suggestions

dg290319

Hi all, I’m looking to upgrade my current rig. The budget is $1200, Below is what I currently have, what could I keep and what should I Upgrade?

CPU: Intel i5-4690

GPU: Radeon R9-280x

Mobo: ASUS Z97-A LGA1150

Ram: 8GB DDR3

PSU: Rosewill Capstone 550W plus gold

cooler: Corsair h100

storage: 1TB Samsung ssd

I have a full tower case so we don’t have to worry about that. I play a lot of Guild Wars 2 and I know that game is heavy on CPU. I’m thinking of getting I7-8700k or I7-9700k, a good mobo and overclock the cpu. Any suggestion for the rest of the build? Can we fit in 16GB ram and a 1070 ti somehow? =]]

thank you

Got SSD?

I'd OC the i5 to 4.4GHz, upgrade to 16GB RAM and a 1070 or 1070Ti.  I'd like to recommend 1060 6GB, but folks are convincing me that it's not going to last for 1080p gaming as long as I thought.

PSU.. I never had an issue with Rosewill, but I'm sure someone will say upgrade it too.

Get a new GPU and another set of 8GB of Ram from the used market.

Keep the rest, no need to upgrade

You could step up the resolution if you are playing at 1080p

Can’t overclock since the CPU is locked.

Sorry, I thought I read it as a K chip.

Since no OC, go 1070Ti and 1440p gaming.

Any of this build great for Guild Wars 2? I know that game is CPU bound, most people suggest to go for a good CPU rather than a GPU.

I know, but a 8 core is the best you can get in mainstream hardware. I know I have chosen a hefty gpu, but also a great cpu, especially for the price. And a motherboard I trust becouse i use the z370 version
