For a 3440x1440 ultrawide monitor, I strongly recommend going with at least the 1080TI.

New Build (The Compromise): CPU - i7 9700K @ 5.1Ghz Mobo - ASRock Z390 Taichi | RAM - 16GB G.SKILL TridentZ RGB 3200CL14 @ 3466 14-14-14-30 1T | GPU - ASUS Strix GTX 1080 TI | Cooler - Corsair h100i Pro | SSDs - 500 GB 960 EVO + 500 GB 850 EVO + 1TB MX300 | Case - Coolermaster H500 | PSUEVGA 850 P2 | Monitor - LG 32GK850G-B 144hz 1440p | OSWindows 10 Pro.

Peripherals - Corsair K70 Lux RGB | Corsair Scimitar RGB | Audio-technica ATH M50X + Antlion Modmic 5 |

CPU/GPU history: Athlon 6000+/HD4850 > i7 2600k/GTX 580, R9 390, R9 Fury > i7 7700K/R9 Fury, 1080TI > Ryzen 1700/1080TI > i7 9700K/1080TI.

Other tech: Surface Pro 4 (i5/128GB), Lenovo Ideapad Y510P w/ Kali, OnePlus 6T (8G/128G), PS4 Slim.

You can get by with a 1070, 1080 would be optimal.

Im using a 1070 on a 3440x1440 ultrawide right now and it works just fine ~100 fps medium high settings.

You really left out a lot of essential information for us to give you any solid advice.

  • What monitor are you getting?
  • What games do you play?

I'd also get an SSD, as a solely HDD based system is just sad in this day in age.

Wait for Black Friday before making any purchases.

Why? What if it's a 60hz panel? Then it's not even really needed.

Yea for a 100hz panel you're gonna want the 1080TI. Maybe a 1080 at the very least if you are willing to drop settings in your games.

I'm gaming at 2560x1080 ultrawide on a GTX 1050Ti and a Xeon e3-1220 and get 60 FPS in PUBG with high textures and everything else set to low. I get about 75 FPS in Overwatch on Ultra and over 100 on CS:GO fully cranked. Hope this helps.

I'd say 1070 Ti is really the minimum here - I'd really consider a used 1080 Ti if I was in your position. I don't really think there's an overkill GPU for a 1440p 100Hz panel. There will some day be games that you won't be able to push through that monitor as graphics technology gets more detailed and more GPU power is required.

hi

Undervolting 5700 (not mine but important)
