Ram and motherboard

 Share

Hello!
I have recently bought a ryzen 2700x and and a set of g.skill G.Skill Sniper X, 16 GB, 2 x 8 GB, DDR4, 3200 MHz, model-nr.: F4-3200C16D-16GSXFB. The motherboard I am thinking about buying is MSI B450 TOMAHAWK.
But now when i look around more i can't seem to find if the ram works with ryzen 2700x and the motherboard. When I go to g.skill's website (https://www.gskill.com/en/product/f4-3200c16d-16gsxfb)  and look for compatibility i can't find any Ryzen motherboards. Should I return the memory or do they work?

It should work at 2933Mhz at the very least. And that is a worst-case scenario with the 2700X, since its IMC natively supports 2933Mhz RAM.

New Build (The Compromise): CPU - i7 9700K @ 5.1Ghz Mobo - ASRock Z390 Taichi | RAM - 16GB G.SKILL TridentZ RGB 3200CL14 @ 3466 14-14-14-30 1T | GPU - ASUS Strix GTX 1080 TI | Cooler - Corsair h100i Pro | SSDs - 500 GB 960 EVO + 500 GB 850 EVO + 1TB MX300 | Case - Coolermaster H500 | PSUEVGA 850 P2 | Monitor - LG 32GK850G-B 144hz 1440p | OSWindows 10 Pro.

Peripherals - Corsair K70 Lux RGB | Corsair Scimitar RGB | Audio-technica ATH M50X + Antlion Modmic 5 |

CPU/GPU history: Athlon 6000+/HD4850 > i7 2600k/GTX 580, R9 390, R9 Fury > i7 7700K/R9 Fury, 1080TI > Ryzen 1700/1080TI > i7 9700K/1080TI.

Other tech: Surface Pro 4 (i5/128GB), Lenovo Ideapad Y510P w/ Kali, OnePlus 6T (8G/128G), PS4 Slim.

Yeah, your RAM is compatible with that motherboard.

The ram you have chosen is F4-3200C16D-16GSXKB and mine is F4-3200C16D-16GSXFB. So is it the same ram? Is the last part of the model-nr not important is it just the color or something?

IMC = Integrated Memory Controller (that is INSIDE the CPU)

Yes, the MSi B450 Tomahawk supports a wide range of memory speeds, including DDR4-2933, 3000, and 3200.

It says right on the specification page.

Yeah it's basically the same RAM. It will work with your motherboard, it's AMD and DDR4
