Vega 64 owners; How happy are you?

dizmo

I'm looking at my rig upgrade options for 2019, and I was wondering how you're finding your performance in games at 1440p, or for the rare 21:9 user, 1440p at that resolution.

I'm considering the Vega 64 as it's about the same price give or take $50 on the used market as the Vega 56, and the monitor supports FreeSync. It's also a killer deal price wise, as it often goes for $440US.

I don't mind lowering the settings to High over Ultra, either.

So far this is what I have planned:

  • Monoprice Zero G 35" monitor 1440p monitor
  • Vega 64

i love my vega64 card but i game at 1080p 240hz+(going to get a benq zowie 240hz monitor for christmas)

when you get it i suggest using msi afterburner to undervolt the card which allows the card to run cooler, and have better overclocks
i need to look up my settings but i think i was running 1680mhz core and 1075 hbm with -93mv with my strix vega64

Good to know! Yeah, I'd definitely look into tweaking it a bit. Originally I was going to get something with GSync and a 1070/Ti, but the price savings is a little more tempting since this is just a refresh and not a completely new "beast mode" build.

i actually went from a 1070ti to a vega64(traded my friend) because of freesync, tbh both cards are basically the same when you look at average fps but in overall feel tbh i feel like my vega card is smoother and the colors tend to pop a little more, idk if im just crazy(and it might be placebo) but i have been having a better gaming experience on my vega card than i have been on my pascal card not to mention if you decide to do anything outside of gaming the vega card(i have been playing around with nick cage deepfakes) is gonna be better than the 1070ti

if you get a vega64 reference aircard make sure you flash the LC bios on it as it allows for better overclocking(seen 1700mhz overclocks) and idk how well it works for gaming but there is a registry hack you can do to increase the power limit of the card beyond 50%

Hmmm interesting, good to know. Haha, I'll only be using it to game, the only other thing I use my PC for is browsing and spreadsheet related activities.

I'm hoping to find one of the liquid cooled ones when I go on my hunt, but at the very least I'll be getting one with an aftermarket cooler.

Just wish AMD would release more higher performance cards so the prices drop farther!

it handles farcry 5 at 4k ultra at around 43fps-50fps and mining performance is about 0.70p per day.

with the deals at the moment including assassins creed odyssey, it is by no means a bad card.

good value vs performance.

Not bad not bad. Hopefully at something like 21:9 1440p it runs at around 80 - 90 fps on High. I'd be happy with that. Only time will tell though, I suppose.

I don't think I'd really bother mining with it tbh, and I'd probably go used. Gotta maximize that value ;)

Sorry for the tardy reply, I don't play many new games, the games at max setting I play are :

UT3, Darksiders (actually fun with a gamepad), Doom, Titanfall 2 (SP, min 70fps and higher), BF BC2, BF4 (Ultra, framerates' around mid 40's to 80-'s)....I think it helps that I'm using a Freensync monitor, not entirely sure though. SOFTR ran smoothly enough (40+ fps to 60+ fps) at near max setting, had to turn down a couple of settings including AF to 4x, it does stress my card though, temps' among the highest I've seen......I'll resort to better air cooling or get a water cooling set for the VEGA when the temps irk me enough.
