So... I'm looking for a replacement for my mid 2010 macbook pro, I basically use it only to watch movies/videos and light browsing since I do the heavy lifting on my desktop.

At first I was looking at the XPS since the screen as far as I know is really good and there's a 13" 4K which is cool, however a friend suggested me to go for an iPad Pro.

Now since I really never owned a tablet... I'm coming for opinions here, what do you think I should go for considering it will be mainly used to watch videos and movies.

I know there are categories for laptops and tablets but I felt posting in one of those would create bias.

It's hard to judge because one has a mobile operating system, and the other has a desktop operating system.

Generally tablets are an extension of mobile phones, being larger for the media consumption side of things, because watching videos on a small phone screen is rarely enjoyable when a tablet is in the picture.

You then have laptops, which are a step down from desktop towers, so you're able to still do everything you'd be able to do on a desktop, obviously at the expense of a keyboard that is present when you go for a laptop.

There's also 2-in-1 models such as the Asus Flip series of 2-in-1 hybrids, they're the best of both of worlds, with detachable keyboards, often a desktop operating system, and the portability of a tablet.

so i would say do you move about lots and watch media on the go to which i say the iPad pro is just too big and heavy.

if your just going to consume media its seems a little extreme to got a dell xps just for browsing.

i consume most media on my 6+ which is great for size and convince so if you want a bigger screen maybe an Ipad mini.

or go for a 2in 1 like @seoz. the MS surface do some great work

I was looking at the XPS purely for the screen.

The usage is gonna be basically only media consumption and web browsing.

I'm not a big fan of 2-in-1s and it will be used 99% of the time at home.

Why not go for the $329 iPad? Makes a lot more sense for a media consumption tablet to me. It won't have surround sound though.

Yeah but with that you have to deal with Windows 10......Not something you want to do for a media consumption device. The 2018 iPad is only $329

Screen size, although 10" maybe enough too.

It is defiantly quite a bit of screen. For the price tbh I think it is your best bet. The Pro has a lot of extras that I don't think you are going to use.

Is really depend on what are you watching. Some have good apps support while some don't. Also do you plan on streaming on TV/projector using the device. Some apps dont allow that.
