Projector/TV for living room

Billy Pilgrim

I have been asked for advice for a living room display system. The screen is about 10-12 feet from the couch. I think it would be best to get something at least 1080p. Their budget is completely dependent on what they can get for a certain price.

Also what size would be the best for that distance?

Would a TV or Projector be better and if so do you have any recommendations?

This is difficult as it is completely dependent on their tastes and their room layout.

I can let you see some tv's if you want to. but my advice for now.

1) get a tv around 40 inch for 1080p (so 43 will do, 60 doesn't)

2) don't get a projector. it's more meant for big screens, the cheaper ones doesn't get that bright and will always have a worse view than a tv for the same price.

3) if you go 4k, you can go higher. that depends on personal taste for how far you want to sit from the tv.

4) don't believe refresh rates higher than 60 hertz on most tv's. only gaming tv's will have higher refreshing rates.

How much would a ~40 inch 1080p TV cost and

How much would a larger 4k TV cost?

How large is the wall? Is the chair going to be against another wall? Is their a window in the room? Do you prefer the picture quality of a decent TV or the flexibility of a projector? Stuff like that
