Single slot, low profile GPU for customers htpc... URGENT!

Wockinine
 Share

Go to solution Solved by Wockinine,

On mg discount site I've managed to find a single slot rx560 4gb which will get the job done in terms of performance. I have to give amd credit this card is really cheap in comparison to that of Nvidia. The card might some thermal limitations but in theory everything should be fine!

I have found a half height bracket which fits around the io (display port, hdmi and dvi) which means that in theory everything should be good. Thanks for your suggestions!

I run my own pc upgrade buissiness (which I manage to fit around school) and I had a customer earlier today who came in and asked me to upgrade his pc so that his son can play games on it and his son wants to get into programming. The only problem, it's a htpc case. The board has an amd 8350k, currently has some dodgy hd6700 or something in the single PCI 3 slot, 8gb ddr3 and a 250gb hdd. I have fitted it with an extra 8gb ram (trust me, I develop games for a living and that extra 8gb makes a world or difference) a 240gb Kingston ssd with a 2.5inch 1tb hdd for mass storage and I have replaced the WiFi card. I need to find a single slot card though in the next 48hours before the customer comes and picks it up. It needs to be able to run esports titles like fortnite and over watch at 1080p 60 (pref mid/high settings) so like gtx 1050/1060 3gb  performace. Also if you can find it retail under £210 (so with my discounts I can get it under the set budget) that would be great!

Thanks in advance!

I think a 550 is the best card you can have in low profile single slot.

Check some benchmarks to see if it's enough.

Edit:

Also, why the f did you replace the wifi card? And why 16gb ram when he doesn't want to do game development? Investing in an ssd would've been the better choice

If you could find one of these, I've seen them around, they're pretty pricey though. (In USD)

Fair enough, but the single-slot is likely more important.

Thanks for all your suggestions! So far it seems like the RX550 seems to be the best fitting (quite literally!) as I always though the gtx 1050 ti was a daul slot par the SUPER expensive models over here in the UK. Correct me if I'm rpwrong though!

The WiFi card because it was some cra**y 2.4ghz only card and the guy was complain about it dropping out (and it was a really cheap upgrade!), the tam because well he asked for it and his son wants to get into game dev and programming (fair play if he has the Patience!).

What is the HTPC case? Maybe it doesn't have to be low profile but single slot is enough, or vice versa?

Either the 550 that was listed or if someone can dig up a ASL GTX 1050 Ti Battle Flag which I certainly can not.

The ability to google properly is a skill of its own.

The low profile I can probably get around by finding a half height bracket which works with the io!

It's a stock acer case from a good few years ago (it uses FX!) the half height I can work around its just the single slot that really matters. Thanks again for helping with this guys!
