A negative experience with EA Live's support. *Long Read*

EnergyEclipse

Hi there,

I wish to inform of the negative experience in which I have just recently received with EA Live support. I contacted them after attempting to install Battlefield 1 left me confused with why it was requesting more space than it should be according to the game's system requirements page.

Here is the chat transcript if you may wish to read through. Needless to say, I am strongly unimpressed and was sure to let them know in there feedback page.

Hi there

Oct 19, 2018 10:39:04 AM

Hello nice to meet you.

 Oct 19, 2018 10:39:42 AM
I see you are facing issue installing Battlefield 1 game.

you Oct 19, 2018 10:40:06 AM
Indeed I am unfortunately. I was hoping that you could help me resolve my issue.

 Oct 19, 2018 10:41:18 AM
I understand, it must be upsetting for you.

Oct 19, 2018 10:41:30 AM
Do not worry, I will assist you with the best of my knowledge.

you Oct 19, 2018 10:42:13 AM
I am glad to hear.

 Oct 19, 2018 10:42:31 AM
May I ask you few questions to look into the matter, is that okay?

you Oct 19, 2018 10:42:43 AM
Certainly that is fine

Oct 19, 2018 10:43:06 AM
Thank you for the permission.

Oct 19, 2018 10:43:36 AM
May I know did you get any message update stating it requires more than 50 gb space?

you Oct 19, 2018 10:45:52 AM
Yes I did. I am installing Battlefield 1 off of EA's Origin service, and when I press download, it says "DOWNLOAD SIZE 69.51 GB SIZE AFTER 81.42 GB". I do not have either of those numbers amount of space for the install on my computer as my hard drive is small.

 Oct 19, 2018 10:46:40 AM
Thank you for providing the relevant information.

 Oct 19, 2018 10:48:01 AM
I would like to inform that minimum requirement is 8 GB RAM Memory and maximum requirement is 16 GB RAM Memory.

you Oct 19, 2018 10:49:42 AM
Ah, thank you. However, my issue is not related to RAM. It is that Battlefield 1 is asking for a bigger amount of space on my hard drive, than the game says on it's systems requirements website.

you Oct 19, 2018 10:51:17 AM
I was hoping that you could assist me with finding why it is asking for more than it should be, as otherwise, I am unable to install the game.

Ranjeet Oct 19, 2018 10:52:00 AM
Do not worry I have check the details for you.

Oct 19, 2018 10:52:33 AM
Please click on the below web-link to get more information about the system requirements: https://www.ea.com/games/battlefield/battlefield-5/buy/pc-system-requirements

you Oct 19, 2018 10:53:39 AM
Thank you. It says on that website that the required storage space is 50GB. However, my Battlefield 1 install is asking for more than that it is asking for >60GB.

you Oct 19, 2018 10:55:12 AM
Apoligies, but I think you may have the incorrect link. I am following the advisory of this System requirements page: https://www.origin.com/gbr/en-us/store/battlefield/battlefield-1#store-page-section-requirements

 Oct 19, 2018 10:56:39 AM
The details displayed on omega are defiantly correct.

you Oct 19, 2018 10:57:59 AM
Apoligies, but I am afraid that they are not relevant to my issue. The ones you have provided are the system requirements for Battlefield V, unfortunately a different game than Battlefield 1 in which is the game I am receiving issue with.

 Oct 19, 2018 10:58:42 AM
I am sorry for the previous web-link as it was incorrectly sent to you.

you Oct 19, 2018 11:00:53 AM
Thank you for providing those. I can see there that it says it needs only 50GB of storage space for me to install Battlefield 1. I have 50GB of space spare on my computer for installing the game, however, my issue is that Battlefield 1 is for some reason requesting more space than that information is saying it should. I was hoping you could help me with knowing why it is asking for more?

 Oct 19, 2018 11:03:54 AM
Have you purchased a digital copy or it is a disc?

you Oct 19, 2018 11:04:06 AM
I have purchased a digital copy for EA Origin.

 Oct 19, 2018 11:05:23 AM
Thank you for the information.

 Oct 19, 2018 11:05:24 AM
Just allow me few minutes while I get in touch with the specialist team for you.

you Oct 19, 2018 11:06:02 AM
No worries do what you need to.

 Oct 19, 2018 11:14:07 AM
Thank you for waiting. I appreciate your patience.

 Oct 19, 2018 11:14:32 AM
I have got an update from the specialist team.

 Oct 19, 2018 11:15:00 AM
You need to free up as much space as possible on the installation drive, then run the ccleaner app to ensure your registry is correctly reflecting the drive space.reboot the system and then try re-installing.

 Oct 19, 2018 11:15:53 AM
The issue will get resolved.

you Oct 19, 2018 11:17:33 AM
Thank you. I am sorry if it is not clear, but I have the space required to install the game according to Battlefield 1's system requirements, with room to spare for Windows updates and forth afterwards. That would thus mean there should be no need to free up more space, as I already have enough.

you Oct 19, 2018 11:18:50 AM
I was hoping that I could find out why it is asking for more than it should be to install.

 Oct 19, 2018 11:20:36 AM
Do not worry Please click on the below web-link and download the ccleaner and run on your pc it will delete the unwanted files and gather more free space: https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/pc/how-to-use-ccleaner-to-fix-pc-issues/

 Oct 19, 2018 11:22:14 AM
Apart from this is there anything else I may help you with?

you Oct 19, 2018 11:22:41 AM
No thank you, you have been very good. I am sorry, although it does not appear as though you understand my point. It may be for the best if I do not install the game, as it does not appear as though I can receive aid with my issue clearly.

Looks like you're right about the incorrect system requirements. Definitely states 50gb required.

Time to buy a new HDD, OP. My OCD doesn't allow me to have HDDs in the red.

What capacity drive do you currently have? Maybe uninstall an older game you don't play to free up some room.

CPU: Intel i7 6700k  | Motherboard: Gigabyte Z170x Gaming 5 | RAM: 2x16GB 3000MHz Corsair Vengeance LPX | GPU: Gigabyte Aorus GTX 1080ti | PSU: Corsair RM750x (2018) | Case: BeQuiet SilentBase 800 | Cooler: Arctic Freezer 34 eSports | SSD: Samsung 970 Evo 500GB + Samsung 840 500GB + Crucial MX500 2TB | Monitor: Acer Predator XB271HU + Samsung BX2450

Unfortunately I only have a 128GB PCI-E M.2 NVME drive, and there is only one other game in which I play frequently installed. I'll probably end up getting a cheap ADATA 120GB SSD for £21 so I can put any future games on

Is this a laptop or desktop?

As you've probably already discovered, 120gb isn't going to last long once you start installing games on it...

Hehe, indeed it isn't any longer unfortunately. I picked up an intergral 240gb V series SSD today for a good price and I'll be using that for my games :D

EA lost me when they banned me for life (with no appeal) on SWTOR, rather than fix the issue.

given that the game was playing up, with constant buffering, fast fowarding and rewinding gameplay.

i have nothing nice to say about them,

its just a pity some of the games i might want to try i cant because they own the copyrights/access

current main system: as of 1st Jan 2023

motherboard : Gigabyte B450M DS3H V2

CPU: Ryzen 5 3600

ram : 16Gig Corsair Vengeance 3600mhz

OS :multi-boot

Video Card : RX 550 4 GIG

Monitor: BENQ 21 inch

Certainly they would you to appeal over a random life ban on there website?

https://help.ea.com/en-gb/help/account/information-about-banned-or-suspended-accounts/

I am confused for why they would ban you over a request for technical assistance, there is no explanation they could give for that alone.

@EnergyEclipse i was actually talking to SWTOR  support when they informed me that they would give me a life ban, without actual reason to justify.  I was informing them of issues in the game and the response was to ban for life.

by the way this happened ages ago, i believe it happened shortly after they made it free to play from memory.

i can still access the website but not the game or game website even though they still  have the cheek to send me notifications....

and now i just really couldnt care, theres better things out there.
