I want to see people saying that despite it's just Ryzen and some Vega cores like the 2200g, it's somehow more powerful than a gaming PC.

Also, make play station multiplayer free again.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k (won) - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

Linux Proliant ML150 G6:

Dual Xeon X5560 - 24GB ECC DDR3 - GTX 750 TI - old Seagate 1.5TB HDD - dark mode Ubuntu (and Win7, cuz why not)

How many watts do I need? Seasonic Focus thread, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

Thats called Windows PC.

I personally want to see dynamic resolution and FPS. If it can handle 4k 60FPS, I would like to set manual resolution, including ultrawide aspect ratio and get more than 60FPS.

Main system: i7 8700k 5Ghz / Asus Prime Z370-A / Corsair Vengeance 2x8GB 3000Mhz / Asus TUF RTX3080 / EVGA 750W GQ / Fractal Design Meshify C

Any upgrades would have be a proprietary, closed system because the design philosophy of consoles is to limit the hardware combinations. When developers know exactly what to expect, then they worry less about trying to support a billion combinations.

Because of the mid-generation upgrade. But between the launch of the original and the expected release year, 2020 or so, it's about average if not actually a bit later.

But are games being released on the older console? I remember the SNES being supported with new titles two or three years after the N64's release. I haven't paid much attention to non-Nintendo consoles since the PS2/3 and X360.

It's been mandated by Sony and probably Microsoft that any game a developer makes for the mid-generation upgrade must work on the original as well, if that's what you're asking.  Otherwise as far as continued support for the platform, that depends. While the SNES largely tailed off after the release of the N64, the original Playstation continued getting a healthy stream of games well past the launch of the PS2, and similarly with the PS2 after the PS3 came out (the last PS2 game made was Pro Evolution Soccer 2011)

It's expected that the current generation will still get games for a few years even after the launch of its successor.

I'm hoping for 1080p60 mode in games now that it might not be so cpu bottlenecked with Ryzen and for PS4 BC. I doubt we get PS1 or PS2 BC and no way in hell we get PS3 BC.

Why bother with BC when you can just force people to rebuy the game from your online store? :P

Na, its bullshit.

First its an intel proprietary thing that doesn't officially work on AMD and second would it defeat the purpose of having a console.

If you want that, get a PC. Easy as that.

I agree and PS4 Backwardscompatibility should be included, especially since there is no technical reason for that.

There was fr the PS3 however.

Last time there was an excuse -> crappy, strange PS3 Hardware that couldn't be emulated, this time its only in software (mostly), so there is no reason to do that.

And in the beginning it would hinder the sales a bit...

Didn't Sony and MS make the stupid claim that the PS4 and XBO would be their last console and they'd just like... iterate on it or something?

Game Informer interviewed the President of the PlayStation division and they asked "What does the PS5 look like?" and the president said "You mean 'if'"

And then the internet took that to somehow mean the PS4 was going to be the last one.

Well I think MS said something about that with the XBO, probably trying to market Win10 or some bullshit.

What about both way compatibility? I guess that would never happen ?

Those who don't have 1080p+ screens, or don't care about new features can still keep using PS4 and play newer games

In 2-3 years, PS5 Pro/Plus/Whatever would be out anyways

Finally got PS4 Pro

So that the new PS5 Games still look like they do now?

Or run at 5-15fps on PS4??

Ähm, no, that makes no sense.

You have to make a break for new innovation. And we don't even know the Controllers for the PS5 yet. so its possible that there will be some changes here. With backward compatibility that wouldn't be possible.

Sorry, that makes NO SENSE as the disadvantages of such an endevor would be too great.

1 hour ago, mayu said:

No, because it would hinder the possibilitys of the next generation software.

Just think about Shadow of the Tomb Raider being backwards compatible with the PS2...

Or just look at some other games that exist on PS3 as well as PS4...

1 hour ago, mayu said:

Well, no.

Its not a PC where you have different innovation cycles than on console where you have big steps every couple of years. That won't happen.

1 hour ago, mayu said:

Would it or wouldn't it?

We do not know that. We have to wait for the initial PS5 specs, if it is on the upper end or the lower end...

And it might also be 4-5years this time and another 4-5 years to PS6, if it will ever exist.

But wanting backwards compatibility from PS5 games just makes no sense because then it will essentially be a PS4 games with all the disadvantages...

Especially since we have no idea what Sony has in mind for the Controller....

From sales point of view, they have no good reason not to make it.

I guess this is more of PC gamer in me thinking/wishing, so I don't have to deal with multiple devices.

And definitely this doesn't make sense at all from sales point as well.

They should thrown in PS1/2 emulation because there are still people who want it clearly, and to do it the best way(hardware) is probably a negligible cost to them now. I still cherish my 60Gb PS3.

8Core Ryzen at 2,5-3GHz with SMT enabled and a NAVI based GPU with 3584 Cores would be my guess.

Memory would be either GDDR6 or HBM2, both roughly double the bandwith of the PS4.

So yeah, it would be that powerful.

55 minutes ago, mayu said:

When did we get the PS4 PRO?

When there was a shrink from 28nm to 16nm.

So for that to happen, there needs to be a shrink.

How long did it take from 16nm TSMC or 14nm GF to 7nm??

And that's not the EUV 7nm that should be a bit better, no idea about the cost though....

So for the "PRO" Version, we need at least 5nm or better.

When PS5 can use PS4 games, it makes sense.

Thing is that you can innovate with consoles more, like the 6axis controller, the PS4 Touchpad...
