So my friend has a laptop and occasionally on boot he will be met with just a black screen and it doesn't shift unless he shuts the laptop down, waits a couple minutes and attempts to launch again. is there any manual fix without haveing to tell you guys the model number ect.

well most likely the capacitors are leaking what with this laptop being over 25 years old , you cannot expect it to last forever

There's a few possible reasons this could be happening, it could be hard drive failure, or it could be a badly seated display cable (less likely), or some other problem you can't really fix that easily.

If the laptop is worth taking to a repair shop (or warranty repair), then do that. If not, it might be time for an upgrade.

But it's less than a year old.

Then you must still have the warranty, right?

ah , useful information. how silly of me to assume it was some other laptop from the past 30 years of laptops. it's almost as if there was more than one made.
