GPS loses signal when screen turned off on my Samsung S9+

When I am using Google Maps on my phone I have to leave the device on the entire time otherwise if I put the phone to sleep/turn screen off the GPS loses signal and does not respond anymore.

I have the S9+ Black SM-G965U1. I wanted the black one with lots of storage so I got the US one and am currently using in Canada. I wouldn't think that would be an issue since my previous Nexus 6P international edition seemed to work just fine.

I either need to know how to allow Maps to run in background or if there is a setting that is turning everything off and select Maps as an exception. I hope it is as simple as that.

Appreciate the help.

I gave you a hint, I don't know what have you installed, s9 has built in powersaving that you can toggle on notification bar - same as wifi or lte, start there
