Advice On a much needed Upgrade

Hi There so let me start off by saying a few things, First i have no experience building a pc, aside for installing a new graphics card, Second i really need a step by step method on building, Third i have a good idea of what i want but i would like everyone's input on if i need anything else. Lastly since i want it fast i will be using amazon prime for the most part unless motivated to invest in certain parts from other vendors. So to begin.

Currently i have a  Chaser MK-I https://www.thermaltake.com/products-model.aspx?id=c_00001719

I will be upgrading to a CORSAIR Obsidian 500D RGB SE Mid-Tower Case   https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07C46L1D8/ref=ox_sc_act_title_7?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

For the Mobo i have a saber tooth, im not sure what i will be upgrading to a ASUS ROG Maximus XI Hero  https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07HCXT591/ref=ox_sc_act_title_4?smid=A4UCFL9LU89NR&psc=1

My Current processor is i an Intel I7 4790K My "PLAN" is to upgrade to the I9-9900K https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005404P9I/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

I know intel Is underfire right now over this Processor for various reasons and i am not compleatly in the loop but if i hear mostly good things about it i will invest in it otherwise i will go for the 8700K

Current Hard drives arent even worth speaking about. But i am aiming for a Samsung 860 PRO 1TB 2.5 Inch SATA III Internal SSD i have read good things about it and i think it will be good for gaming.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078211KCN/ref=ox_sc_act_title_13?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

I got 64 gb of ram that is far past its prime and will be going for the CORSAIR Vengeance RGB PRO 32GB (4x8GB) DDR4 3600MHz

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07D1TT84Z/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1#

For Power im gonna go for a CORSAIR RMX Series, RM850x, 850 Watt, Fully Modular Power Supply, 80+ Gold Certified

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B079H5WNXN/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

I already have a 1080 So im gonna move that over from my current build and replace it with an old 780 if my brother asks for it ps how much should i ask for it if i am going to  sell it to him he has expressed a desire to have a gaming computer, he is just not as avid as i am.

For cooling i am going to go for an additional six to what the case has to offer of 3 Corsair LL Series LL120 RGB 120mm Dual Light Loop RGB LED PWM

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075VGN4M1/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

I am going to mount one in the back and 2 up top, and keep the 3 that i have up front. you may notice i still have an additional 3 ill get to that now.

To cool the processor i am going to get the CORSAIR HYDRO SERIES H150i PRO RGB AIO Liquid CPU Cooler, 360mm Radiator, Triple 120mm ML Series PWM Fans, Advanced RGB Lighting and Fan Software Control

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B077FZPCRH/ref=ox_sc_act_title_10?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

My plan is to remove the 3 stock fans and replace them with my remaining 3 Rgb fans.

I am also interested in getting a Intel Optane Memory Module 32 GB PCIe M.2 80mm

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XSXX3NS/ref=ox_sc_act_title_15?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

For peace of mind i am going to invest in a CyberPower CP1500PFCLCD PFC Sinewave UPS System, 1500VA/900W, 10 Outlets, AVR, Mini-Tower

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00429N19W/ref=ox_sc_act_title_9?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

To hopefully not mess anything up during assembly i ordered these

 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B017164JHA/ref=ox_sc_act_title_11?smid=A3KD0OO9H1T8D3&psc=1

I already got a 32 inch 4k moniter at 60 hz and plan on upgrading soon but for the time being im gonna stick with that.

To ad a bit of edge lighting i am gonna get some corsair led strips.

https://www.amazon.com/CORSAIR-CL-9011109-WW-Lighting-Node-PRO/dp/B01MYDTC2C/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1539480222&sr=8-2&keywords=corsair%2Brgb&th=1

EDIT, my next investment down the road is an actual gaming desk i have my eye on this https://www.walmart.com/ip/Gaming-Desk-Techni-Sport-Luxor/216033599

2 new monitors this for just reasons

https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-LC49HG90DMNXZA-Curved-49-Inch-Monitor/dp/B072C7TNC5/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1539482843&sr=1-1&keywords=chg90&dpID=4159bf2rnXL&preST=_SX300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch

and this for gaming reasons

https://www.amazon.com/Swift-PG27UQ-G-SYNC-Gaming-Monitor/dp/B07F1VGGLK/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1539482903&sr=1-1&keywords=pg27uq

But those are far down the road..

Im Pretty sure that covers Everything Now i desperately need some questions to be answered, so please bear with my lack of knowledge.

1. Will i have Enough power

2. Will i have enough ports to run all the rgb fans and power strips, will i need more and if so how?

3. Someone please explain to me the best way to sync up all the colors including the rgb on the modo.

4. Will it all stay cool temperature wise and aesthetically?

5. Someone explain to me The Intel Optane chip, its purpose, is there a better choice, is it needed?

6. The hard drive i have now is going to be mostly for gaming reasons. Should i invest in a smaller one that is faster for my operating system?

7. How should i oriante my fans? i am thinking i want the 2 on top and the 1 in back to pull in and the remaining 6 to push out.

8. Should i take anymore safety precautions when building? i have seen some anti static pads with built in wrist straps but have been unable to find any.

9. Do i need any additional Hardware, or software to insure it all works as hoped after install.

10. Any advice on configuring The Bios to squeeze as much power out of this thing as it can handle safely?

11. Anything to watch out for when building to avoid catastrophe, or confusion?

Frankly i an really wanting to invest in a new Pc i have been wanting to for a very long time, and am kinda overwhelmed with the amount of info i need to process through, So i am reaching out to hopefully get some help. So please im begging you from all of you with vast experience please help an aspiring guy make his dream of a new and faster pc come true. If you made it this far i want to express my gratitude, and Linus if you are out there, please give your expert advice or better yet, come on out to Seattle and help me build my new rig :)

Sincerely yours,

A guy far over his head

James.

Hi James,

I spent some time reading your question and I have formulated my own answer. As I do not have any idea what your use case is or how much you really want to spend I assebmled the system I would build myself.

Here is the part list: PCPARTPICKER

PCPartPicker part list:

The processor is first. You have already made a good choice, when money doesn't matter so much. 8 cores all at 5ghz is unbeatable these days. I went with your decision of the H150i pro, its a great cooler. I have run my trusty old H100i v2 for years it and holds up. I added some thermal compound. There is more than you need, and while it may sound funny, if this is the first time you have built a pc, you should practice applying it to dummy square CPU cardboard chips or something. The motherboard is the Maximus XI code, Idk why but the code makes me love PC building. I ran the X code and I love it. The ram stays the same. The SSD has been upgraded to the amazing 970 pro 1tb. This is much faster, and is all around a much better drive. The case is the same. The PSU is awesome. The fans are dope. The Optane memory module is fine, but kinda unnecessary. Overall, this is a kick ass build list, better than mine. But, let me answer your questions.

1: If you are talking about raw Compute power, then it depends on your workload. For 90% of the population, this is overkill. You should be fine. Or, if you are talking about power in terms of PSU raw electricity, then you are fine there as well.

2: You should be fine when it comes to the fan control, just make sure you pick up a NZXT internal USB hub to be safe.

3: The motherboard LEDS WILL NOT SYNC WITH THE FANS!!!!!!! CORSAIR uses a proprietary software called iCUE. You can control all of your Corsair goodies, but the Asus AURA software with control the rest. You will live by just syncing then yourself.

4: No problems with temp unless you become an idiot (cough cough JayzTwoCents)  and overclock your CPU to the point where you blow transistors .

5: The Optane chip is useless unless you plan to use older hard rives. Even then I wouldn't buy it. The Samsung 970 Pro will be just fine, and much faster.

6: Don't put your OS ON A HARD DRIVE!!!!! You will want to kill yourself on the slow boot times. Store the OS, main files and games on the SSD.

7: OK OK OK. Here is the most common mistake first time builders have. You have to have even or positive pressure fan config. This means you should have the three front fans pushing air in, and the two top and one back pushing air out.

8: Don't throw a Linus and drop stuff, but if you are careful you probably don't even need the wristband.

9:  All the drivers that the hardware uses. This can be found in the manuals.

10: One step at a time here. Run it stock first.

11: No

Hope this helped. Have a good building experience!

Best,

Django

@Django

Thanks for the quick reply. you cleared up a ton.

So the intel optane is basically useless from what i am understanding, will i not need the samsung 860 PRO 1TB 2.5 Inch SATA III Internal SSD if i go for the Samsung 970 Pro? will it be able to handle all my games on max at 4k and run my op system as well?

Edit----

I would also like a bit more info when it comes to the fans, will i need additional internal usb space will i need an extra hub to control all of the ? if i am running 9 rgb fans as well as rgb strips around the perimeter of the case? What else would i need?

Sorry I didnt get back to you. Grinding CS. You should be fine. You need an internal USB for the Cooler, for the Corsair lights and then you need some for the case. The USB hub gives your three more.
