Apparently I’m over killing this system

Mugenjynn
Go to solution Solved by Princess Luna,

I had a Maxwell TITAN X on a 1650x1050p monitor.

I had a GTX 1080 Ti on a 2560x1080p monitor.

If you want to fully maximize graphical settings a high end card is perfectly justifiable, what gives is that ultra settings usually are too demanding for diminishing extra eye candy reason why if you're sticking to low resolutions you can save a buck with a GTX 1060 sure but it all depends on what you want from your system and how much you're comfortable spending.

I have a 1080 with 2 x 4K 60Hz monitors.

I think that’ll give me a long time before I have to upgrade

is it really that bad I mean really?

Yes, we've been over this. Cheap/Effective is the way to go IMO, or just buy a used 980ti and overclock it for the same performance as the 1070ti

better off using that money on a 1080p 144hz display

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

1070ti isnt a bad choice for 1080p 75Hz monitor if you like cranking settings up to the max when you can. Also ensures demanding games (Assassin's Creed ones for example) won't require heavily chopping down settings to say low or medium.

I know the guy who said that, he's the strictly 'do not overbuy your system because you upgrade every 2 years' guy and Ryzen enthusiast (not fanboy yet, but not fair between the two brands either).

About that build though, I will do something to the SSD and motherboard. SU650 in my region anyway often die when the warranty ends, so that's no good.  The mobo itself is good enough for the 2600, but for AM4 upgradability's sake get something better. I myself would replace them with SU800 512GB and MSI B450-A Pro
