specification Laptop Spec, which one is more worth it?

So I want to buy this laptop, first I thought that I want to buy the GS (GTX 1070 Max-Q 8GB) one, and then I saw that the storage device is different between GS and GM (GTX 1060 6GB) version.

The only difference between the two is its Graphic Card and Storage Device.

For the planning, I want to use this laptop for Gaming and for Daily Use like Programming, Editing and etc.

 

I wanted to know, from your personal preferences, which one is more better, on the same price, better GPU/Storage?

Hm, if you put it that way, it make sense if I choose GPU over Storage.

But for 1TB NVMe PCIe x4, I need to add $600 more to the price.

From what I think, a durable laptop/device must have a good temperature management.

Here from Asus, they have this special Hinge, that can go up and make a small space for the extra air flow. Has a good or more extra fan slice than before.

I watched several video reviews about this model and found out that most of them have a good impression about this model temperature.

 

2. Panel

Aside from the temperature, this model has an IPS panel with a good color gamut (At least barely what I need).

About 99% sRGB and 71% aRGB

With 144Hz refresh rate, 3ms Response time, 1080p resolution and 290 nits.

And a thin bezel.

 

3. It's relatively small, light and strong

This laptop has a dimension of 360 x 268 x 15.75 mm.

Weight 2.1 kg or 4.6 lb

Covered with an aluminum-magnesium.

 

4. Not a gaming laptop like

Lastly, it's model is not like a lot of gaming laptop before.

 

And correct me if I'm wrong, as my knowledge only came from watching a lot of reviews.

For the pricing, Asus ROG Zephyrus S GX531GS is about $2000 and Asus ROG Zephyrus S GX531GM is about $1800

I don't know how much is it going to cost if I want to upgrade the GM version's storage into M.2 NVMe PCIe x4 1TB SSD

True, if it's 1TB/s 

 

Isn't it only 600MB/s for SATA3?

So PCIe x2 will have about 1GBps++

Most PCI-E M2 can reach above 600MB/s, good enough.

The best one can top 3000MB/s (samsung 960), who needs that kinda speed?

And i'm still rocking a SATA SSD myself, still fast enough.

Not reluctant to fill in the empty m2 slot, because its fast enough for now.

1. Really? That's not the kind of information I get. I watch his review of this laptop. (Some of the reviews that I watched)

 

2. Yeah I know, For now I'm only looking at the srgb and argb for the panel, the response time doesn't matter much.

3. Can you tell me some recommendations? Which have a good temperature management, relatively small, light and strong? If you have some recommendation, I'll definitely check it out.

4. At least it's quite a different model from the previous gaming laptop which has all black and red with thick bezel and so on.

 

I don't mind the keyboard position, and yeah it doesn't have the greatest battery life, but I don't mind about it either, because I'll always charge my laptop.

 

This model only has an M.2 slot, so I guess M.2 NVMe PCIe x2 will be fine for now. (And based on the input from others)

 

I'm from Indonesia, my budget is probably at max $2000.

I haven't set any max weight, as I'm looking for a durable laptop for working as well as playing with it. So getting a light laptop is just another bonus.

Battery life with the minimum of 4 hours, I think that's fair.

I am pretty sure what @GeneXiS_X  meant is that the it cant possibly be as good as it seems, the only reason reviewers are so surprised isbecause it isnt as bad as thin and light laptops usually are, especially the ones that call them selves the thinnest laptops, thermals might be good, but performance might be throttled, 

even on my machine, which i have an overclocked 1070, i  dont really get thermal issues but i still got power throttled from time to time, 

So with a thin machine like that you can expect something like that to keep temperatures down, lower clock speeds and lower power draw to lower thermals

Ok, I think I get the gist of using this type of thin and light model. I'll try to research more and ask those who already have this model about this thin thermal issue. :)

 

If I were to give a range for the weight, I think below 2.5kg is fine.

For online store, I only use Indonesian Online Store, but I think you can give me recommendation from any store and I'll just filter it out based on my preferences. :)

The point is, I'm looking for a durable laptop can I can also use for gaming that can last for about 5 years or more.

 

I choose this model because I think it fits that point, but after discussing here a bit, there are cases to be considered and I think there's still time to choose before this model came out.

 

As for the Storage Device, I think, going with M.2 NVMe PCIe x2 512GB is fine for now.

You may see some throttling when the CPU goes past 90C and GPU (Pascal) goes past 74C. However, this doesn't mean that 86C is good. Remember, higher temps kill hardware faster. So you might want the temps to be as low as possible
