Yes, 100 series boards work with 6000 and (with a BIOS update) 7000 series chips.

They don't however work with the 8000 or 9000 series chips.

Hi all would a Intel I7 7700K work on a Asus Maximus Hero Alpha motherboard?

 

They are both LGA 1151 

 

Mine is a Z170 motherboard and currently has a 6th Gen i5 6600K

If the BIOS is up to date with the latest version then yes
