Gaming computer in Semi Truck

blaircroft

Hello I'm trying to set up my gaming computer in my 2018 Kenworth T680 but having power issues. Both with the monitor and the tower. But mostly the monitor. I realize the power inverter is likely incompatible with monitor and tower PSU. I need a fix or workaround.

Issue: Monitor works interminitly for short periods of time then goes into sleep mode. Sometimes says "No Input" when it it hooked up properly.

Tower works but interminitly restarts. Sometimes I get the error "Please power down and connect the PCIe power cables for this graphics card". But all power cables are secured in the proper places. Tower+ monitor works no problem connected to a wall socket.

My PSU specs are:
Monitor: Acer LCD 22" wide-screen model# G235H power rating 100-240V 50/60Hz 1.5A

PSU: Corsair AX850 model# CMPSU-850AX 100-240V

Inverter: Tundra M1500 12 VDC 120 VAC-1500W

Its possible I have too many things hooked up to the inverter but I've tried it with just monitor and tower hooked up with these results. I realize the monitor and tower PSU are probably incompatible with the inverter so I'm asking for ideas or workarounds to get my gaming rid working with no issues. Thank you.

I think 1500 W should be plenty so you're probably right that the issue is unclean power from the inverter.  Solutions to that would be to get a better inverter, or (and I would probably recommend this for the other added benefits), put an online UPS between the inverter and the PC.  It will "absorb" the dirty power to charge its battery and then generate clean power on the other side, thus separating the PC from the inverter.  Only trick to that would be to make sure the UPS accepts the inverter's power, as if it's excessively bad it may be detected as the same as an outage and just won't work.

edit: gonna move this to the PSU section so we can get some more knowledgeable people on the topic :)

I'd have to agree with Ryan, I don't actually know much about the subject but that sounds like a good idea. Did you have a different inverter to try? Is any of the other things plugged into the inverter showing problems?

Thanks for the prompt reply I bought a newer monitor which seems to be working but the issue now is when powering on it says "No Input" and then goes to sleep aswell as the keyboard and mouse are not working. The only thing plugged into the inverter is the tower, a mini refrigerator, and the monitor. Tower powers on fine. The whole system ran fine yesterday for 4h.

New monitor is: Acer Predator XB271HU Abmiprz 27-inch WQHD (2560x1440) NVIDIA G-SYNC Monitor (Display Port & HDMI Port, 144Hz)

I purchased a new inverter but it never worked and somehow a the fuse blew out on my trucks 4 battery setup. Should I try again with a replacement? I was told Pure Sine wave inverters would work for this setup.

Dud inverter: Tiger Claw 1500W Pure Sine Wave Power Inverter DC-AC 1500 Watt 3000 Watt Peak

Oh, I must have missed that ... are you sure there is enough headroom on the inverter to run all that?  Particularly when they're first starting up, things like this can cause a big spike in draw

Yes, it should if you can find one.  Most don't have that though from what I can tell since it's cheaper not to or something

Not any UPS will do though.  It needs to be an "online" one.  Line interactive or 'less' won't do because so long as they feel the incoming power is good enough, they will pass it along without any interference.

I wish I had the ability and equipment to measure how much draw everything is getting but I don't right now. I was recommended this inverter and watched a review of the inverter that was shown and proven to be a true sine wave inverter but the inverter I got never worked.

Based on that it does look fine, but I wonder if these units are perhaps made very cheaply and some work, while others not so much and you just got unlucky.  I would also wonder about the lifespan...
