core i7 2600, mobo, 8gb RAM... 150$?

while looking for cheap used computers, i came across a Core i7 2600, an Asus Motherboard, and 8gb Ram.. here are 2 images

honestly, the RAM looks outdated, it is probably DDR2 or 3. the description simply says “Selling my intel i7-2600 with Asus Motherboard and 8GB Ram.”

there is probably no CPU, as you can see the ad says there is one, but it is covered by the cooler. it is a possibility it is there, but it is probably some knock off i7.

what are your thoughts?

better than the 2200g?

should i buy it to see if it works?

even if it's real, it's not that good of a deal. the 2600 isn't that good of a processor anymore, ddr3 is outdated and most people who can pay for a 2200g can fit a ryzen 1600 in their budget, which is way better

-snip-

So 2600 was ddr3, so that is most likely 4x2GB DDR3 1333MHz or 1600MHz.

Second, there's no such thing as a knock off i7. It's either an i7 or a different CPU. The motherboard also has USB 3.0, and the sandy bridge CPUs were the first generation to support that.

Looks all good to me.

Is this a local sale? if so, take a power supply and monitor (Plus cables) and confirm that it is what he claims in the BIOS. or have him send photos of it posting to bios with the CPU listed.

Yeah, no way of knowing what CPU without booting it up or asking for a photo with the heatsink off.

I would personally try to find a K series CPU with a Z series board if Sandy Bridge / Ivy Bridge. At least overclocked they still hold up somewhat well.

It'll hold up, but 3.8 GHz boost isn't so impressive.

I would try to find other used deals first.

I mean it's a decent budget PC at least.

Yeah, I would just go for Ryzen at this point (Also try to get 2600 if possible)

The i7 2600 sort of sits between the 2200G and 2400G on cinebench. But I'd be worried if the motherboard is in decent shape or not. haha

i’m actually looking at either the 2200g or 2400g, mostly for the APU so i do not have to buy a gpu yet
