LYLE is ruthless

Hopefully the guy starring in the Verge video doesn't get too much hate, it's not his fault the company doesn't know its facts. Knowing the internet though...

It's a locked framerate either with Vsync or a FPS limit set. He went in to the settings of the game and locked the FPS to not go any higher than 120FPS. In the video he explains he did this because it could go as high as 300FPS, but it was just an absurd amount of FPS that he didn't want so he locked it at a lower FPS.

Locking FPS does have practical applications - But is about the most stupid thing you can do if you're trying to benchmark the performance of the system.

I'm not entirely certain what an 8700k + 1080 get in LoL, but 300+FPS that he claims sounded about right.

Oh guess I didn't hear that part then.

Also am I alone in having noticed that during their fancy little animations at the beginning the PCIe slot fingers on the graphics card were in the wrong area?

I feel kinda bad for him. It's pretty obvious he's never built a computer before, and he seems kind of nervous ( look how he stutters when he speaks for example ). I think The Verge just took some random intern, and told him the very basics on what to do, and just made a video or something.

EDIT: hold on a sec, Im looking into this guy and it seems that he is NOT an intern, according to his twitter. It also seems that he will be doing a review or at least benchmark the new RTX cards, as there is a picture of the 2080ti on said twitter. A quick google search reveals that he also works, or has worked  for TechCrunch

Aaand that's how you completely screw up your thermal paste

Also, half the zip ties aren't even doing anything, they're too loose.

Wow, I love how they take a photo of their 'completed $2000 build'. It looks like a joke build with no attempt at cable management. Careless.

I've only seen one video of thermal paste application that I can objectively call worse.

I can't say who, but this is a training video from a major OEM.
