So I have decided it is time to upgrade my Intel I7-930 Bloomfield.  I can't believe how long I have had this CPU...

I have been out of the game for so long I tried using part picker but it became a pain trying to confirm compatibility with all the different parts.  So now I am looking for recommendations from the gurus here.  Looking to buy motherboard / CPU & RAM on a budget of $1000

The parts I am currently keeping for the time being:

  • EVGA SuperNOVA 750 PS
  • GTX 970 Ti
  • Phanteks Enthoo Pro TG Full ATX

The PC is used for 50% gaming and 50% video authoring with Adobe Premiere.

I am hoping I can build something on a $1000 budget.

Any suggestions?

Don't really see why you wouldn't go with a new GPU as well, I mean even if you wanna pick up an SSD or more RAM just replace the 1070 or 1060 6GB as the budget allows.

CPU: AMD - Ryzen 7 2700X 3.7GHz 8-Core Processor  ($318.90 @ OutletPC)
Motherboard: MSI - X470 GAMING PLUS ATX AM4 Motherboard  ($119.99 @ Amazon)
Memory: Corsair - Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 Memory  ($154.99 @ Amazon)
Video Card: Gigabyte - GeForce GTX 1080 8GB WINDFORCE OC 8G Video Card  ($479.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Total: $1073.87
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

October is the rumoured launch date for Whiskey Lake.

I would highly recommend you wait until then if you don't necessarily need to urgently upgrade right now.

An i7-9700K (8 Core / 8 Thread) for around $350 or an i9-9900K (8 Core / 16 Thread) for around $450 will suit your use case perfectly for the price.
