Getting audio output with hyperx clouds when mic is muted/not in

I recently got a set of hyperx clouds (two days ago) as a birthday gift from a buddy of mine. I had gone like 3 months without a set (broke my Logitech). Today was my first chance to try it out over discord. I noticed that if I was watching/listening to music/videos I would outputting sound through my mic. Even when the mic is literally not plugged into my headset. I'm not really sure where to go from here. I've tried messing with settings in Realtek manager. Uninstalled/updated it a few times. Never from the official site because the download keeps saying it'll take 5 hours. I do not have a dedicated soundcard, I only use the jacks in the front of the computer. I did try the ones in the back and the same issue occurred.

I plugged the headphone jack into my phone and play music from there, the same issue. However, when I tried to record audio on my phone from the mic jack, it didn't record whatever was being listened to on the computer. Not sure if that's because it's solely an interaction between my headset and windows or my phone didn't pick up the mic and used its basic phonemic. Ive found other threads about similar issues and ive tried those suggestions (realtek manager settings, checking with my phone, etc.)

Id love to get this fixed instead of trying to get a warranty thing done/return. Any help is appreciated.

Im running win7 64 bit.

If you're interested in a product please download and read the manual first.

what? I might have worded it poorly but im pretty sure i was clear.

like, id have a song going through my headphones only but it would also output it as audio playback through the mic.

So you mic outputs sound even when its not plugged into the headset?

If anything I think there may be some confusion with putting a trrs plug into a trs port. If you not using the usb soundcard then you will need a splitter for the pc. Surprised your phone doesn't have trrs though.

Yeah it outputs regardless of whether my mic is in the port of the headset or not. I have it out of the headset now and itll play audio to whatever im listening to. So if im watching a music video, the person in the discord call can hear the video too.

the cord is split, so it has a mic and headphone jack. When the mic jack part of the splitter is in, it will play whatever I'm listening to as audio playback from the mic. The volume at which it outputs to the mic can be adjusted with the inline volume rocker.

I think you're missing my point. It's not the mic that is playing the sound. It can't get a signal if it is not plugged in.

Basically your phone is probably the best indicator because it will have a trrs input. Make sure you're plugging that plug in all the way. If you sitll can't get it to work then yeah you must have a short in the wires somewhere.

you mean the actual headphones cable is already split without a splitter? if so then do you have 2 inputs on your phone? if not then how did you manage to get a mic input on your phone where you said you had the same problem?

so then you say the headphones are outputting to the mic, so conversely you test by plugging in the mic jack to the speaker port and seeing if you get sound to the headphones.

the cord is split like that. one headphone jack, one mic.

when i tested my phone, i had my headphone jack plugged into my phone and the mic jack into my computer. Playing the music was picked up in discord on my computer.

I tried having my mic jack in my phone, and playing sound through my comp with the headphone jack in the phone. I recorded audio on my phone but did not get the usual music playback thats been happening. That makes me think its an interaction with the headset and my computer. But it could just be my phone didnt take that mic
