Using 2 different GPU's on a non-SLI MB?

@itisme911@DildorTheDecentJust so I am 100% in the clear even though you guys have already said yes. It is 100% fine to use 2 different types of GPU ex: 1050 + 1060 inside of a b450 motherboard that does not support SLI?

edit: Just out of curiosity. Would using 3 or even 4 different types of GPUs if your MB has the slots for it work? Like 1050 + 1060 + 1070 + 1080 all in the same board.

Yup. I used to run two 660s and a 650 Ti Boost for folding on a board that did not support SLi. Granted they are older cards but the rules haven't changed as far as what cards you can and cannot use are.

You could have the entire Pascal product stack if you had the PCI-E lanes for it. That's what it will ultimately boils down too. You'll be alright with just two GPUs.

For example: 1050 and 1060 in the same motherboard.

I want to get a microATX motherboard from the Ryzen 400 series. However, the only mATX that the Ryzen 400 series has are b450s which are the same as the x470s aside from SLI support.

Now, I don't know if this counts as SLI but SLI is simply using more than 1 GPU and the SLI bridge. So, I do not know if this is considered SLI/Dual GPU.

Thus, what I'm looking for is an answer to this question. Can I use 2 different types of GPUs in a b450 MB that is not SLI capable.

I am currently using it on an x370 MB (which is SLI capable) but want the smaller mATX board for better fitment of bottom Radiators in my SFF case.

This doesn't show the b450 but I'm just assuming its the same as the B350 but with StoreMI support.

Yes. Shouldn't be a problem.

If you wanted to use SLi, you would need both GPUs to be identical (same core + memory amount) and have support for SLi (via the SLi fingers + motherboard). You can't mix GPUs from different models. (maybe via a driver hack but that's a different topic, for a different day)

Alright cool. Not using it for games but for rendering.

Which is capable of rendering with multiple different types of GPUs at the same time, 1050, 1060, 1070, etc.

Rendering in what software? You can generally mix and match there and don't need bridges or anything.

Though you probably don't want to bother with a 1050/1060 tier GPU for rendering

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

You can* but it wont do much, it would be an acceleration card for physX at most, wont help much in games or anything, what usecase are you going for?

It was for example. I have higher end GPUs and I render with iRAY which render faster with more CUDAcores.

I don't care about the x470 features. I just want the mATX board which for the AM4 400 Series is only available in b450. But the b450 does not support SLI (which I don't care about double Dual 1080+1080, I want for ex: 1070+1080 because I don't want to spend money on another high end GPU, I just want a 2nd GPU (not too expensive GPU) to boost Rendering time. If you get what I'm saying.

edit: @itisme911 you posted after I quoted Streetguru. This is to also answer your question. It is not for gaming at all.

ok you should be fine then

If you don't need more than 6GBs of VRAM just get 980tis on the cheap near $300 used and overclock them to about 1400mhz which any of them should hit. Puts it within about 15% of a GTX 1080 for performance.

And if your CPU isn't very important in that software find a cheap/used server set up with a bunch of PCI-e slots?

I wasn't very informative when I stated "I am currently using it on an x370 MB (which is SLI capable) but want the smaller mATX board for better fitment of bottom Radiators in my SFF case." What I mean is that I have already have both GPUs and my system. I just want to replace the Motherboard into a mATX MB so that I can have better Radiator fitments.

Because right now, the Rad+Fan are blocking about 1 inch of the bottom of the motherboard. Which also prevent 2 PCIe slots from being usable (a x4 and a x16 slot). Even a 1 slot PCIe card won't fit inside of the x16 slot due to the Rad+Fan blocking it.
