I looking for some headphones for gaming and everyday use. I’ve narrowed it down to 3 headphones. The ATH M40x, the Skullcandy Hesh 3s, or the HyperX Cloud Alphas. I think the M40xs are out because they don’t come with a built in mic for gaming unless someone has a decently cheap mic recommendation I can buy with them. So should I get the very subtle less for gaming Hesh 3s, or the Cloud Alphas which are better for gaming but stand out a lot more in public.

hyper x are alright but if you want actual audio quality nothing beats em for the price unless you go with the 50x haha

but if you want a nice pair of open back headphones that are like 100 dollars that sound very good for the price go for the Audio-Technica ATH-AD700X Audiophile Open-Air Headphones they will sound a million times better than either of those.

cheers.

The M40X will sound better than everything else up there by a long shot, do yourself a favor and pick the ATH-M40X.

Right now on amazon for $129.00 you get the M40x with a Antlion Modmic which is probably one of the best detachable mics you can get and can be used with any future headphones.  So that solves your mic issues.

One upgrade you need to get for the M40X to make them super comfortable and improve the soundstage + isolation are the Brainwaves HM5 Angled ear pads, there is a pair of these for $12.00 on amazon right now and trust me YOU HAVE to get these pads the stock pads are not good.

I have this exact setup and its my go to for everything from games to music, youtube, movies etc.   I play competitive CS:GO on esea and have not thought to have any disadvantage in the audio department when compared to what my friends etc can hear.  Sometimes I hear things others don't and it gives an advantage.

$129.00 ATH-M40x w/ Mod Mic

$12.99 HM5 Angled Ear Pads

$142.00 and you got yourself a set of headphones and a mic that will blow away ANY "gaming" headset and will last you for years.

Good luck with your purchase.. feel free to ask me any questions about the headphones I have owned them for over a year so far.

Cheers.

It’s over my budget but I’ll look into it.

Saving an extra 30-50$ will get you something that will last much longer, seriously look into it you will not regret it.

Good luck!

I wear glasses and I heard the m40xs aren’t comfortable with glasses. Do you think that is a big problem?

Not with the HM5 Angled pad upgrade, with the stock pads yes I can see there being a problem but I wear glasses as well and the M40x with the Angled pad upgrade its just fine.  I would say they are my one pair that works the best with glasses.
