What is CUDA cores

Hey guys, i'm new here (and follow LTT since a week or two), so i really don't know if the question was already asked here (if it's the case, i'm sorry to waste your time). 

Here is my question, what are CUDA Cores ? I saw that some old GPU has more CUDA cores than GTX 1080Ti and i read a lot of things which confuse me a lot. Thanks to those who'll take the time to respond and good day/night

CUDA Cores are units that perform calculations to render video to be sent to your monitor. They're similar to a CPU's cores, except these do more of a single calculation and they all run in parallel. Older graphics cards may have more cores than newer ones, but the newer cards can still have better performance because of the differences in that generation's processor architecture. Finally, CUDA cores are for Nvidia and Stream Processors/Compute Units are for AMD.

If you want to keep it really simple think of it like horsepower. It's not quite correct but it sorta is the same idea

Oh, it's really simple to understand ahah, i read some topic about CUDA cores really.....difficult to understand ahah

Also, if i understood well, the latest architecture with a lot of CUDA Cores is better than an old architecture with more CUDA cores ?

Yes, the newer architecture provides better performance with less power usage.
