Sony Announces Xperia XZ3

Standard fare for the internals; Snapdragon 845, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage plus micro-SD card slot. You got your usual Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, and dual band WiFi AC connectivity, and a rear fingerprint reader.

 

The camera is a 19MP rear camera, capable of 4K HDR videos and 960fps slow motion. Front camera is a 13MP affair.

 

For a first for a Sony phone, it runs a 6" OLED display, unknown who is the vendor for the screen. The screen has a resolution of 2880 x 1440, and is protected by Gorilla Glass 5 that is curved at the edges to integrate smoothly with the aluminum body. The bezel dimensions have also been reduced, allowing for an improved display/body ratio. With the increased phone size, battery has been bumped up to 3,330mAh, and the phone supports Qi wireless charging.

 

It will also ship with Android 9.0 Pie.

 

A new feature is Side Sense, which is a gesture-based system, that detects taps and swipes on the curved edges of the OLED panel, allowing shortcuts to launch applications, such as the camera, and is customizable by the end user.

 

The phone will arrive in stores at the end of September.

While I like my XZ1 Compact, can't say I've enjoyed the body looks of the XZ2/3 models...  Also don't like the removal of the 3.5 mm connector they started with the XZ2.  Still, at least they haven't put a stupid notch in the screen.  If they continue with that and also making the compact versions I might stick with the Sony devices.

Honestly doesn't look like a bad phone.  No idea how it runs but looks wise is decent

dont understand sony strategy here. xz2 is merely out for 6 month and now xz3? plus theres little to no improvident. 

the finger print reader placement is still the worst. The phone is still bulky af, there's still no headphone jack, theres still no OIS in the camera, the nighttime photo quality is still bad (from GSM arena hands on review).

b4 i actually admire their classic design, now they have eliminate the only thing i like abt their phone.

A bit dissapointing... I was honestly hoping for the new 48MP sensor to debut on the XZ3 but I guess it's too new...

Well, it's an improvement, mainly display I guess, they switched to OLED for the first time as well. But oh it's quite a thick phone and yet battery is mediocre for it. And don't like that design at all. Really wish they go back to og Z design rather.

I completely agree, kinda feel like Sony when backwards after the XZ1c. I love this phone!

Sony should just go ahead and release the Sony Xperia PlayStation Edition with playstation logo and gamer phone features. I bet it would sell as much as the razer or asus gaming phones

Definitely not less than Asus' gaming phone, and I really doubt less than the Razer phone. Sony is much more established even if they arent really considered popular and the playstation fanbois would all buy in

I like it, except for the no headphone jack part. Finally an OLED display from Sony. Guess it's time to upgrade from my Xperia Z5 compact when the XZ3 compact comes along.

Fun fact they actually also own Funimation which oddly enough does dubs for anime in English despite being owned by a Japanese company.

I don't know, if they had good marketing and could introduce some good remote-play or features that make the PS4 experience better it could work. A big reason for the PS Vita's downfall was the expensive propitiatory memory cartridges. It just killed any interest for the system. But let's be honest they'll never do this .
