5 GHz Network turns off randomly

LeandroMLopes

I got a new Huawei HS8247W router from my service provider, it has WiFi A/C, 5 GHz, and all the bells and whistles.

So, I have a gaming laptop and a Galaxy S9 with WiFi A/C, so, to take advantage of all the speed I have (400 Mbps download) I turned on the 5 GHz network, which was off by default, for some stupid reason.

The thing is, I've had this router for a couple of days and the 5 GHz network turns off randomly sometimes, while the 2.4 GHz is always on, as usual... It turns off for like 10 seconds and then comes back on. I've seen it turn off 3 or 4 times these 2 days I've had it.I did go to the router settings to make some tweaks and set the channel bandwidth to 160 MHz, the highest setting, but everything was fine on both my laptop and cell phone. Could this be the reason for it to turn off sometimes?

Any help? Thanks a lot in advance!

What channel is it set to, have you tried changing it?  It could be conflicting with another device in range and the larger the channel width the more likely that can happen.

DFS hit? Are you in a flight corridor? Try a Channel between 36 and 48.

DFS hit would disconnect for 10 minutes not a few seconds though?

It depends on the access point. My Ubiquiti ones switches immediately to a non DFS frequency. In the night they switch back to the configured DFS channel

Ah I see.  I have only experienced it on the Litebeam and as I have it limited to outdoor channels there is no none-DFS channel to choose so presumably why it forces a wait.  Annoyingly never a REAL DFS hit, just when I change wireless settings.

DFS was set to auto. I set the channel to 44 now, randomly picked between 36 and 48 as you said. I'll see if it solves it!

Thanks, guys!

On 160Mhz I believe you will always be using DFS channels.

I'd start with 40Mhz, see if it works, then increase to 80Mhz if everything seems fine.  You should be able to get 400Mbit out of 80Mhz anyway.
