I've already got a hard drive and SATA cables so I don't need those. I think I'll just MacGyver my Skylake cooler onto the motherboard.

All I want to be able to do with this is determine whether or not GPUs work. I won't be benching or playing games on it. I will most likely just fasten everything to a piece of scrapwood.

Any thoughts or recommendations?

If you're just looking for a video signal, that should do the trick.

If you're planning on stress testing the cards, that CPU will bottleneck the hell out of just about any modern card you try to test.

TBH, you could probably find a used desktop on Craigslist for less money that will be more capable.

then you won't be determining if they work , the drivers and cards stability will determine if it still works. all you'll be doing is seeing if it can run in limp mode.

Also , that board is several pci-e generations behind , in those days of pci-e 1.0 , 1.0a , and 1.1 , a lot of gpus had trouble with compatibility from a bios standpoint. A lot of people forget about how incompatible early pci-e was back then.

the only thing this rig will do is confirm that the card just so happens to post on this ancient chipset. But that's about it.

Just buy this with free shipping, save yourself the work, and get a little extra performance if you decide to stress test cards.

That's all I want to do. I can benchmark cards on my personal system but I don't want to risk harming it with some cards.

Unless you're finding these cards in an actual sunken ship then I'm not sure how they would harm a newer system.

Pci-e compatibility has problem from the boards standpoint. But not the cards. So old pci-e cards work and have no issues in newer boards and don't surcome to the early issue that 1.0 1.0a 1.1 boards sometimes had.

It would have worked, but I guess it's sold out now lol.  Was actually a damn good deal, not surprised they went so fast.
