Hey guys.

Someone from my education is planning to sell his laptop, but it's still running a 7th generation processor. Because its "second hand" (it has been repaired in a repair shop recently, where they replaced the motherboard along with the entire chassis, keyboard and touchpad [His screen didnt turn on anymore, but that has been fixed now]) it still has 1 year of warranty. It is rocking a gtx 1080 though. So after looking around for laptops around the same price range of 2k i noticed multiple laptops sporting an 8th gen processor and a GTX 1070 for the same price.

After doing personal research it seems like the 8th gen processor is 10% better in single core applications due to higher clock speed. And up to 50% faster in multicore applications since it has 2 more cores. Whereas the difference in GPU seems to be 30%. I don't know how important extra cores are though? And i believe it's also rumoured that next gen consoles will probably be using AMD Zen, which would mean more cores and this would make an 8th generation more beneficial for future proofing?

So i was wondering which one would be better?
1) I7-7820HQ + GTX 1080
2) I7-8750H + GTX 1070

The two laptops im essentially looking at are these 2:
1) https://tweakers.net/pricewatch/709179/msi-gt73vr-7rf-409nl-(titan-pro)/specificaties/
2) https://www.alternate.nl/OMEN-by-HP/17-an104nd-17-3-laptop/html/product/1460967?lk=23950

I will mainly be using it for Gaming and Game Programming. And in the future maybe streaming for friends / fun. Outside of that it's just the generic computer use.
I would like it to be future proof as i might be traveling to another country later so it would basically act as a portable desktop and i would like it to last a long time.
I know one of them is a lot more leightweight and easy to take with me as well. But i'm not really focussed on that, sure its a nice benefit but nothing deal-breaking.

You have kind of a mixed bag in terms of uses and what I think most people would recommend.

The 1080 will be noticeably better for gaming if you use 1440p / 4K or high-refresh rate monitors, game dependent obviously.  If you're primarily going to be gaming with 1080p @ 60 hz (or are willing to lower some graphics settings) I would say the 1070 will do you fine, and the extra cores will potentially help quite a bit when you're streaming, IMHO,

Only these 2 options? If gaming is main priority then 1070

Model wise, MSI GT is a lot better than HP Omen 17

Thanks for the responses guys. I assume with model wise you mean build quality?
I can find multiple different laptops with the same specs as the Omen for around the same price range. The main issue at hand is whether i should get a better processor, and a lesser GPU or the other way around.

Good performance and lasting a long while will be my top priority, since laptops usually dont allow for big upgrades so if im spending a lot of money i'd like it to last for a long time, and suiting me in my needs.

May i ask why you recommended the GTX 1070 above the GTX 1080 for gaming?

Build quality, cooling, audio, pretty much everything

Can you list them down?

So after googling again for a while i have found numerous additional laptops for around the same price.

These laptops are similar specced to the GTX 1070 in my original post:
1) https://www.mediamarkt.nl/nl/product/_asus-rog-strix-gl703gs-e5012t-1578055.html
2) https://www.coolblue.nl/product/816259/msi-ge63-raider-rgb-8rf-462nl.html#product_specifications

This laptop has the same specs, but is instead equiped with the Max-Q variant of the GTX 1070
3) https://www.alternate.nl/ALTERNATE/Thunderstorm-15CL875-GTX1070-SSD+HDD-15-6-laptop/html/product/1463929?lk=23950

And then finally i stumbled upon this very well priced laptop. It's specs differ. It has a GTX 1070, but the processor is a I7-7700HQ which seems to be the slightly lesser variant of the one thats in the original post's [gtx 1080 laptop]. I think this might be the best price to performance wise?

GE Raider is good

GL703GS is too hot. GM model (1060) is fine

That alternate model is actually Clevo P950/P955 which don't have the best cooling

So from what i understand.
1) Bad cooling (bad for performance? I dont care about any heat myself).
2) Good laptop
3) Bad cooling.
4) Not sure what your thoughts were on this one?

If thats true then my options will be limited to either 2, 4 or the one with the 1080.
Which one out of 2 and 4 would you recommend more? 4) is a quite a lot cheaper. I dont mind paying more if it performs a lot better but if its similar i'd rather spend less money.
