PC's wont show up even through network discovery is enabled.

Hi all, I have recently been trying to get synergy and network & sharing to work with my new laptop. So far I've tried various service edits and windows defender firewall rule adjustments. I haven't had any luck. I have tried disabling and re-enabling network discovery to have neither show up on the network page on each machine. One is connected to the network via AC-7260 on Wifi and the other by ethernet. This hasn't been an issue in the past. 

If anyone has can guide me to any fixes that would be greatly appreciated

Can they see each other at all, such as pinging the ethernet client from the WiFi one?  If not check if the router has client isolation enabled on the WiFi.

Pinging from my desktop to my laptop returns request timed out. Whereas from my laptop to my desktop returns General failiure, I am going to check my routers admin panel for a client isolation setting.

After checking my router settings I cannot find such a setting. I did discover that I had Invisibility on LAN enabled on my laptops VPN. This lead to the laptop showing up on the desktops file manager but not the other way around. Clicking on it only returns Error: 0x80070035 "The network path was not found."

Ah a VPN does add a spanner in the works if it has a killswitch function (which it sounds like it does) as that most likely will block all access to the LAN (which is overkill IMO as it only needs to block the routers IP really).  Found out to my own detriment recently when I logged into a VPN on a remote server and now I'm completely locked out until my friend remembers to reboot that box.

Try it with the VPN disabled (if its app auto-starts you will need to block that as it might start the killswitch immediately) as "invisibility" sure sounds like that sort of function and if its refusing to disable that's a problem.

I have already tried with all of the settings which would affect networking disabled and the VPN's disabled on both machines.

I assume you have Internet access with the VPN disabled?  That would kinda suggest its not blocking while its off although I'd still be tempted to uninstall the software entirely and reboot, just to be sure.

Okay I'll give that ago tomorrow it's getting late I don't want to be up all day trying to get networking to work.
