Hello all,

My plan is to move the ps4 onto my desk with my PC and whatnot, I currently have a PG279Q for my main display. Unfortunately the ps4 does not render in 1440p, so its drops down to the 1080p texture models which looks pretty blurry and complete trash imo. So what I would like to do is purchase a 2nd monitor to play the ps4 on, this 2nd monitor would be 4k and also be used to for work space for when I'm on the pc. Now before I go all into getting a monitor, how much better would a monitor be compared to my living room TV, which is a Samsung 55 in MU8000?

Now I know one difference right away is that, that TV has HDR as where my budget of a monitor would only have the "Fake" HDR, but some monitors have a very nice IPS panel. But how would the difference in quality be, lets say a higher quality 4k monitor like the BenQ PD3200U be compared to my MU8000? Are the colors of the IPS panel on the monitor that much better then the TV? Would the monitor be worth it?

If a monitor would be a better choice, what 4k monitor would be a solid fit? Budget is AROUND 500.

Any opinions would be great, thanks!

@Atreyix

The only difference between TV and Monitor is the amount processing involved, most TV's have a game mode to disable most if not all processing thus lowering input lag.

Beyond that its the difference between panel types and individual specs.

Samsung's Mu8000 is one of the better LCD's for gaming as it has rather good input lag figures for a TV (20-25ms), so nothing to worry about there. It being VA also means you will have better 'blacks' as oposed to a IPS or TN monitor, however it being VA means pixel response is slower which will cause some amoutn of ghosting.  The MU8000 apparently has some really good figures for a VA panel TV , with 80% transition times of 4.5ms and 100% transition times of 14ms, significantly less than most VA panel TV's.

Basscialy, for the price you likely payed for that TV, its one of the best for gaming.

Finaly, since this is for a console, i wouldnt fret to much about what VDU you use to play on, so long as it doesnt have drasticly bad input lag your likely not going to notice a difference. Consoles rarely render at native resolution, and rarely stick 60 FPS, so visualy its a non issue.

I'd recommend giving the TV a try.

As said above, except even TVs with game mode usually have a lot more processing that a monitor.  It gives them a better picture but at the cost of some input lag.

A monitor will almost always (if not always) have less input latency than the best TV for this reason, but AFAIK NEVER as good a picture.  You literally have to choose between the two things.
