How do you switch from Ethernet to Wireless?

I currently have a 200mbits download plan but I'm only receiving 30-50 mbits download and 12 upload. And it's been stabilised to that ever since. I want to try wireless and see If it would improve the speed. 

 

I currently have one of those TP-LINK Wifi Boosters which allows me to connect it with an ethernet of a shorter length instead of a 20meter one all the way from my modem to my computer. I already called a technician and when he arrived here, the internet decided to boost all the way up to 200 mbps and go down to 50 mbps right when he left. 

 

I went to the control panel and followed some guides on the internet, unplugged my ethernet cable, restarted my pc, disabled the ethernet all that stuff. Any suggestions?

@DrThotsWireless will not improve the speed, if anything due to crowding and overlapping of wireless channels it could make the whole problem even worse.

 

Stick with Wired.  Have u upgraded your ethernet card drivers?

How do you upgrade the ethernet card drivers? I am using a gaming computer so I'm pretty sure most of my components are pretty advanced

Keep it wired, wireless will only make the performance even worse.

This is already a wireless setup. You are using a range extender with a lan port basically. Which means you are only wired to the extender then using wireless to access the modem.

 

This isn't an actual wired connection in that case. You might be better off trying to use powerline in that scenario.

Now be warned even with the gigabit one you will probably only have a maximum throughput of maybe 300-350.

A power line adapter is a dual plugin setup. You plug one in to a regular power outlet by your modem and then plug in an ethernet cable. Then where you want access you will plug in the second adapter and another ethernet cable to your device. The adapters send the signal through your internal electrical wiring. If you have a newer home with good wiring then you can get really good speeds. If you are in an older poorly wired home then you will see much slower than advertised speeds.

 

The best method all together would be to just run an actual ethernet cable to your machine. Depending on how your home is setup it could be an easy process of drilling a few holes and running the cable, in others it can be rather tricky.

 

Lastle you being capped at around 50mb on your phone and computer (your other thread) I am guessing you are using a wireless N router or a wrongly configured AC router.  Either way you will want a good wireless AC router and a good wireless AC receiver. If you aren't that far from the router then chances are you will see 150+ speeds. I mean my own wireless AC router can hit 500 Mbps anywhere on my first floor.

@DrThotsIf your using a range extender with the SH3 then thats your issue, ive seen plenty of issues.

 

Either connect directly to the SH3 direct over wireless or get yourself a nice long ethernet cable which will also help with gaming internet performance if you game online.

My house is pretty small. My room and computer is exactly above the living room where the modem is located.

@DrThotsThen just get a better AC router and an AC adapter and just aim the signal up. Better yet just find someone who knows how to run a drop. Chances are if you share an exterior wall it can just be dropped down from one floor to the other easily.

Depends. Probably cost you about the same as getting a new router and adapter.

@DrThots u can get the Netgear R8000 Nighthawk X6 which is an AC3200 in Currys at the moment on Sale for around £170 and a good adapter around £50ish.

@AngryBeaver Its totally different here in UK, u would be far reached to find an electrician to do this sort of work it would be down to a network firm who would charge an eye watering amount of cash or a local PC Firm which would be cheaper.

 

My local PC Firm charges £85 callout + hourly rate of £35 + Parts.

I'm not too sure. If you are talking about having one go all the way up my stairs into my room... I'd say 20 meters or so.
