Why are the 980ti more expensive than the 1080ti?

Why don't people just buy 1080ti? I was.

They do. The only reason there are even a handful of 980 Ti's left on shelves is that very few people buy them now. The card has been out of production for a long time.

low supply = higher price, at least on items with decent demand

Are there still "new" 980Ti's out there? From the sounds of it, no one is stupid enough to pay the high price so they remain out there. Around the launch of the 10 series, most places discounted the 9 series to clear them out.

New ones that didn't sell.

As far as I know, nobody is currently still manufacturing those cards.

Agreed. My thinking was, when the 10 series dropped, if they didn't discount to clear stock then and left it at high prices... well, they might be taking up space in a warehouse for a long time. It'll be pretty niche for someone to need to buy a new one now.
