Looking for a new ventirad [Gigabyte Z370P D3 | i7 8700]

Go to solution Solved by Fasauceome,

is it just me, or is seeing the stock cooler next to a full set of sexy ass trident z vomit inducing?

Anyway, just get a decent air cooler. You don't need a radiator for a non overclocked CPU, and even something like the Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 would probably be able to cool it passively, or with only one fan.

I also personally find the Cryorig C7 to be a classy cooler, with a nice low profile design, stylish silver heat pipes, and a nice looking blue fan, all with quiet operation.

The classic Hyper 212 EVO cools any old CPU, so not like you can go wrong with that.

Otherwise, get a corsair H60 or something. A single rad would be enough if you really wanted water cooling.

Hello,

I'm looking for a new ventirad (using Intel stock cooler, pls don't judge me).
My main problem is I wanna keep my 32GB of sweet, sweet RAM and I don't know what to get that's small enough for that.
I want to be able to put my CPU under heavy load with no thermal throttling tho, so it's a challenge for a hardware noob like me.

I have a Noctua NH-U14s which is a single tower heatsink, it does a good job keeping my i7-7700k under 70c.

Basically any single tower heatsink will do the job cooling down a cpu if you don't push it to hard.

Main Rig : 5600X, NH-U14s, MSI B550 Gaming Plus, 32GB DDR4 3200, MSI RTX 3070

Server : i7-7700k, Hyper 212 RGB, ASUS Prime z270, 16GB DDR4 2133, MSI GTX 1070

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

i7 8700? my Hyper 212X does it perfectly fine, soundless appropriated cooling, any thing on these grounds will work, just don't get a AiO that'd be bad.

Looks like it'd do the job :)

It's not just you.

The Cryorig C7 looks like it'd be good to have on that build (I'm more concerned about big coolers that are too bulky to keep all my RAM, like the Dark Rock Pro 4).
The Hyper looks like a good price/efficiency deal!
I'm too much of a noob to use watercooling atm, I'd like to have a test rig to be able to afford a failure...

I think I'll go for a Hyper 212 (X or EVO) then, seeing that you recommend it too ;)

I made my mind : I'm getting a Hyper 212X :)
Thank you all for your advice <3

If you haven't already purchased the cooler, the PR Slim is quieter and probably cheaper: https://www.topachat.com/pages/detail2_cat_est_micro_puis_rubrique_est_w_ven_puis_ref_est_in10100051.html

Personally I would skip the Hyper 212X.  There are so many coolers out there that function exponentially better for only a couple dollars more.  Cryorig H7 will clear ram since it is pushed back.  It looks significantly better and will be able to at least net you light overclocking capability.

I've already bought it, so I'll keep that in mind for future purchases

Spoiler

And also If I ever upgrade my old, okayish rig (2011's high end stuff in a meh case, still lacks storage and functioning sound)

Just to note that it hangs over 1st fan slot, so you need to move fan to other side as pulling.

That's nice and smexy, as long as the fan is blowing air the right way.

Dunno how push/pull works, is there any way I can go wrong with a single fan?

Push / pull indicates which direction the fans are facing relative to a heatsink / rad. Your fan should be pulling away from the heatsink towards the back of the case.

Here's the deal:

the fan on the back of your case is probably blowing air out the back, unless you fiddled with it.

The fan on the air cooler, literally right next to it, should not be fighting for air with that rear exhaust fan. since they're nearly touching, they should both be blowing air the same direction.

the fan isn't hard to reverse. You just take the fan off and flip it around on the bracket.

Its rookie mistake. But not bad one of that. On plus side, now you know how fans work, and probably won't repeat that one again.
