Hello!

First time posting here otherwise have been lurking and reading all kinds of topics here and love the community.
Now I need little bit of help making decision as to what to do regarding my PC upgrade.

I use my PC for light gaming and for working in sketchuo and fusion 360.

Right now I have and use gigabyte mb z270 with G4400. Recently I acquired used MSI Z270 gaming M5 for next to nothing and was planning on getting used 7700k. As 7700k rarely shows up used for sale (especially without motherboard) I decided I will spend ca 250€ for either new 7700 (non -K) or ca 300€ for MSI B450 gaming carbon AC and ryzen 5 2600.

What do you guys suggest I should buy?

The ryzen build seems a better value, but

What ram do you have at the moment?

Right now I have only 8GB corsair vegance 2400mhz CL 14 and I plan to upgrade it after I am done with CPU/MOBO upgrade.

go for 7700k

I am asking about 7700 (non-k) version as 7700k costs about 70€ more than ryzen 5 build and 100€ more than non-k 7700...I don't think it is worth it...

The question should probably be, are you planning on overclocking? If not save your money and grab either the 7700 or the Ryzen set up. The Ryzen 2600 will ramp up its speed as long as power and thermals allow. #GoRedTeam

AMD Ryzen 3950x under a Noctua D15S, 32 Gb G Skill FlareX 3200 DDR4 running at 3200 CL14, Gigabyte Aorus Pro 570 Wifi, Gigabyte 2070 Super hooked to a Dell U2718Q 4k HDR monitor & an Acer 1440p 144hz IPS panel of some kind, an Inland 1 TB M.2 PCIE 4 main drive, a Samsung NVME M.2 250Gb, WD Blue 500Gb  and 1 TB SSDs, Corsair RMX750, Rainbows and butterflies...

Then the r5 2600, especially if you use the pc for mostly work.

I only see your reply if you @ me.

My cooler does support am4. One would think finding used 6700k or 7700k (without mobo and hence cheap) would be easy, but it is not...

I was going to OC but it is not dealbreaker if I cannot. Do you think overclocked 2600 equals 7700 or maybe even comes close in light gaming (not asking for office work as I know that notoverclocked ryzen 5 outperforms 7700 in such tasks)

What do you do with your pc

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.
