Is i5 enough for modern gaming now days?

Is i5 still enough for modern gaming now days or not anymore? My friend will need to build PC and I want to help him, but don't know should we stick with i5 option or i7? GPU will be probably 1070 or 1080 or 1080ti...

i5 - 8600K is pretty reasonable in gaming, or the 6600K, but there are other low end ones which are like..yeah technically you could game but it wont be pleasent to play with

Old ones are pretty different from the new ones.

Back then a 6600K was way more bang/buck compared to the 6700K and right now too, the 8600K coming in with 6C/6Thas enough power to blast through games.

there are eight generations of core now, there is quite the performance difference from first gen to eight gen and it also depends on what you want to play. I would say the first and second gen are still ok but if you are buying new then either 4th gen if you already have DDR3 RAM or 8th gen if you dont. any I5 will be ok, but pretty much only 4th and 8th gen are worth the buy, definatly dont get 6 or 7th gen as it would be almost as expensive as 8th gen and id stay away from first gen unless you just want to play lower end games

Yep 8th gen I5s are great but if you get the 1080Ti make sure you get an 8600k as the 8400 through to 8600 will bottlekneck it in most games.
