Hi all, what would I need to be able to play 4K blu rays. I have a 4K monitor already, know I need 4K blu ray player of course, though not sure if there's 1 that's any better than the rest. I know there's special anti-piracy hardware you need but unsure whether that's in the GPU, CPU or both?

I have:

i7 6700k, Z170 motherboard
16GB @ 2666MHz RAM
GTX 1080

On a side note: for 4K gaming is the GPU the only part I need to focus on for the next few years before there's another limiting factor?

Looking at the 20xx series I'm thinking it might be worth skipping, see what the 30xx series or like. Gut feeling is 20s won't have a good price/performance with RT off
Possibly go for the 1080 Ti if there's some good discounts? (I can sell my 1080 to someone on a 980 if it makes sense for me to get a new GPU).

Thanks it advance to anyone who has any knowledge on this.

I don't think Anti-piracy stuff would be a problem unless you're actually ripping them from the disc, in which case VLC has a plugin for handbrake that should remove DRM.

Thanks both. I thought I'd heard in the past that 4K blu ray discs needed a decoder in the CPU or GPU to be able to watch them. Has been awhile since I looked into this so maybe the requirements are easier now.

Not wanting to rip the dics, just watch them.

I've been told by some I need an intel motherboard that supports SGX and 7th gen CPU??
Is this correct? I don't really want to have to buy a new motherboard and CPU when my current one is fine.
