Can someone help me chose a DAW???

I am currently trying to update from a free DAW by the name of LMMS, but I am hoping to upgrade. I don't which one to chose that won't kill my 7th Gen core i5. I am going into a music program here in Surrey and need help choosing the best software!!!!!

I really enjoy Studio One from Presonus. Performance is good, but as with everything, with a big enough project you can reach the limits of your hardware. Though never had problems.

If you're just starting out, there's a free version with less plug ins, but the artists license will get you most off the stuff done without overpaying for the professional version

It really depends what you will be doing in your daw. Most daws out there offer a similar level of performance, and you shouldn't run into snags with any reasonably sized project with that cpu. Some sampler plugins are ram hungry and a good reliable hard drive or perferrably ssd is good to have. I wouldn't really worry about performance though, just whatever workflow works best for your needs. If you can tell me what you'll be doing I can help you out more though.

You could try reaper for free but my best recommendation is buy what your school will teach you. 

 

Otherwise, Pro Tools, Cubase, Nuendo & Logic Pro are listed in job listings as Industry standards. 

But whatever you know works best.
