Building my brother a pc to play WoW on (he's been playing on a laptop from 8 years ago under 10 fps). He will be playing on a huge 4k capable TV, however with a budget around $750 I want to aim for 1440p. He will probably only play WoW or less demanding older games and no real fps target other than around 60 (WoW fps varies pretty wildly area to area) I've poked some other minds and have decided on an 8gb 580 over the 6gb 1060 because the extra vram will help the higher resolution. Wanted to hear if theres any important upgrades/downgrades I should make to get the cheapest pc to get around 60fps at 1440p in WoW, and to hear if the xfx, which i have no experience with, gpu is about as reliable as the 10 dollar more expensive msi 580 with a slightly slower out of box clock speed. Thanks for the input.

don't bother with the 580 yet I thought I heard ATI would be releasing the 600 series soon. As for the power I doubt you need a 1000 series GTX a 750TI 4GB or 900 series would work just fine for everything but 4k gaming but should still do 4K streaming etc.

The new 2000 series cards seem promising though. 2060 leaked to have almost similar firestrike score as 1080 and 2080 is leaked to perform better than titan v.

cx450 $2 more than the 700? and he likes the look of the h17 more, it's not a showpiece. Thank you though, is corsair a much more reliable brand I've always used evga psu's.

Seems like a 580 or 1060 is more than enough for this build and who knows how out of wack a new release could throw prices out.

What about the coolermaster 550, same tier $5 100 more watts?

550 is a good solid wattage. it is what I get personally. I tend to overclock all my PC's and video cards and never needed more unless I had 3x the video cards

Thank you for the tier list, just went with the good wattage from a reliable brand. Is this upgrade worth $50 or just overkill for his needs? Guess I'm asking if it will perform longer than the i3.

all brands have sold rubbish power supplies before, go read good reviews about them instead of looking by brand.

Yeah the ryzen 7 is probably better overall, but I don't think the extra $60 is worth it for just playing world of warcraft, not even sure if the 1600 is worth it either, first time I've done a build not solely focused on performance per dollar. Thanks again for the help.

you can prob get the 1700 oc'd to 4.4ish +- 0.2 but no matter if your oc'ing or going default get a AIO cooler for it. I recommend the corsair H80i or H100i. I have my fx8350 oc'ed to 5.4 Ghz for years and the temp is less than a decent air cooler. at full load if never goes higher than 62c

So say I throw a hyper 212 on it with 3 120 corsair af fans, could i get a decent enough OC to make the better RAM worth?
