Gaming Headset with superior sound quality to Audio Technica's M40x?

Hi guys,

I've tried my brother's ath-m40x for CS:GO and I find it slightly muffled, and it feels like the soundstage isn't that wide, as if I was sitting in the back row of a theater, so I'm looking for a headset that addresses this issue. I usually game on my samsung's AKG earphone and it still feels more engaging than the m40x.

I currently own several grado headphones but I can't game on them cause it's open back so I hear alot of noise, and I want a better SQ than my earphone, and I have a few pairs in mind like the Corsair HS50, HyperX Cloud II or possibly the SteelSeries Arctis Pro. Could anyone tell me how would they fare against the M40x, sound quality wise? I can't test them out cause they're all sealed in boxes at the local stores.

If you HAVE to get a "gaming" headset then the Hyper X cloud or cloud alpha are decent options and would be the only headset that I would purchase but I would still look into getting a pair of headphones...

Are you using the M40X with or without an amplifier?

Stock pads?  Try the m40x with brainwaves HM5 Angled pads it really helps with the isolation and soundstage.

I play competitive CSGO on ESEA with my M40X without issue  (W/ hm5 angled pads + fx - audio Dac / Amp).  I also really enjoy using my Senn HD558's Open backs when I have a quiet household and I want an extra edge over the other team as I can hear people running from miles away with those things but they bleed sound as they are open..

Here's a link to some of the pads in question these are not "authentic" hm5 pads but if you want to try them its only $12.00.  Most people do not even recommend using the M40X without these installed.

I'm using a Xonar Essence STX with the LME49720NA opamps, I've just recently bought the Sennheiser GSP 300, I tried the HyperX Cloud 2 and while the sound is more forward, I find the highs to be a little harsh so I didn't really want it either. The Sennheiser GSP 300 was way more decent and it isn't as laid back as the M40x so I'm enjoying it atm

Never even seen the GSP 300 before, looks like an interesting buy.  Glad you found something that's working for you.
