Are Idle Temperatures Around 50-55C Okay?

I'm hitting on average 55C with the wraith prism cooler on my 2700x browsing google and random stuff like discord and steam is that normal? Is this okay for the CPU?

I wouldn't call that normal or okay, personally.

 

That's almost at the normal load temperatures.

I had the same issue with this fan, if my system had gotten any warmer it would have been visible from outta space.

 

The only way i cooled it was to buy an AIO and cool it that way, dropped my temps by around 10*c all over the board.

It's a pain because I tried taking off that damn cooler to check the stock thermal paste but that cooler has no intentions of coming off and there are no guides online for uninstalling or even installing the wraith prism

@KlwdieSounds like the heatsink and CPU have become stuck together by the thermal paste and the heat produced.

 

Here u can see the Wraith Prism being installed.....

Na its been like that from the second I put the first clip on, I could not get it back off if I wanted.

Its a few hours later, I got off the cooler with a lot of trial an error and the way to get it off was apparent to twist it, shockingly. I changed the thermal paste, added two new fans and... nothing changed, its marginally cooler depending on how you look at it, it still hits 55 when it decides to and it rarely goes under 40 so was it worth it, probably not. I'm tired and honestly worn out after all of this and it was for basically nothing. I wouldn't be surprised if I actually damaged something in the process.(The fan speeds are all maxed too except the CPU although its near maxed. The exception is because I like it and I'd rather not have to buy another one)@WoodenMarker @jimkirk363

@KlwdieDid u remove the old thermal paste before adding new?.

 

Also even with the AIO i have my temperatures usually idle around mid 40*c and hit around 53*c under load at max.

What is your ambient?  What voltage and OC do you have?

No its not you need to provide more info i.e. is it overclocked, voltages at idle?

obviously i removed the old thermal paste as best i could, some of it was really in the pipes of the cooler and some dried on the cpu but ye

Right about now I'm idling at 38-55 at max it will vary spiking up to 55 if I open a program or what not but it averages around I'd say 44C, is that alright? @mrbilky @geo3  (Its not over clocked in anyway and I haven't touched the voltages)

Which means it's on auto which is the default. The auto setting seems to hit it with excessive voltage. When I went to a static voltage and static clock multiplier I dropped temperatures by an average of 10C. Also got overall better performance.

Hi everyone,

 

Am facing the same problem with the r7 2700x high temps, around 45c min and 56c max and on load while rendering large scene in 3ds max the temp will bump up to +90c with the stock cooler.

 

But after replacing the cooler with AIO Cooler Master 240ML RGB it seems to be difference but not big one. The only difference Ive notice it was when i put the CPU on 100% load from 90c with stock cooling now with the AIO is max of 75c.

 

My main concern is why the idle temps are so high on a CPU with default settings, is there anything that needs to be changed in BIOS...

I have the Cosair H115i Pro RGB AIO and i dont really get above 53*c now even when benchmarking or gaming.

Will have to check on that. But first I will have to fix the bios because the pc freezes all the time while entering in bios
