Hello,

 

i bought this memory package:

It was advertised as 3.000Mhz ram. The package also has a sticker saying that it is 3.000Mhz CPU.
However, if i check the RAM in Bios (Asus z370-F MB), it does say that the sticks operate @2.133Mhz.

I am very confused at this point and would really appreciate your help with the following questions:

1) Do i have to overclock the chips to operate at 3.000Mhz? Or is it wrong chips that i received?

2) How do i do that exactly? Is turning on XMP 2.0 Profile (what i found i Bios) is enough?
3) Is it the same RAM chips they advertise operating any other Mhz? I am asking because there is a price difference between them and if its the same chips i might just return this one and choose the less expensive one.

 

Sorry if i am asking obvious questions. I am very beginner.

You have to enable the XMP profile. It's disabled by default, which is why your memory is running at atandard DDR4 speeds.

It's technically an overclock but it should still be covered by warranty.

1) enable XMP. You can just raise the memory frequency (to 2933, since most dont give you the 3000mhz option right away), but that could lead the motheboard using long timings which hurt performance.

 

2) Some mobo (like mine) require enabling XMP, then cranking up memory frequency.

 

3) They are different. Even memory dies that came out of the same factory at the same time vary in overclocking capability. That's why you buy factory overclocked memory: you are guaranteed to have something that can reach the rated frequencies and timings. Sure you can try overclock a standard 2133MHz kit, but you most likely wont go very far. Good ones might hit 2666, bad ones wont let you touch anything without breaking stability.

Two out of two 2133 MHz CL 12 sets I've had ran fine at 3000MHz Cl15 @ 1.35V which is basically identical to the higher "binned" 3000MHz CL 15 set that corsair also sells. Maybe I just got lucky though, IDK.

Entry level 2133MHz kit run CL14 to CL16, so you're ahead of the others from the start
