does the GTX 980ti support HDR?

i own a GTX 980ti G1 and a PG27UQ monitor, but it isn't showing in the display setting, the only option is night mode, can i still get my GPU to support HDR or is that not possible?

It is on the cable, the mointor and obviously the monitor.

the cable is 1.4 and the monitor does have support for 4K, HDR and 144hz but the option isn't showing

It does not depend on the cable, it depends on the port.

 

The GTX 980 Ti uses DisplayPort 1.2, which predates HDR.

980ti can supply HDR gaming using a compatable HDMI cable. Though Windows support for HDR sucks atm

HDR does work with 9th gen GPUs, just not through DisplayPort.

so i gotta use HDMI 2.0? the pg27uq came with it should i test it? i thought HDMI dont work on PC's

Yes, with the 980 Ti you would need to use the HDMI port for HDR. The maximum refresh rate at 4K 10 bpc color (HDR) will be 50 Hz, assuming the monitor supports it.

 

Why would your 980 Ti have an HDMI port on it if HDMI didn't work on PCs?

i have the HDMI to HDMI cable not the one with HDMI to VGA will it still work?

I know this is an old topic but since i am on the market for a 55 inch 4k 120 hz gsync compatible tv, i wanted to wrap it up what 980ti ports can do and cannot do.

First of all displayport is 1.2 (there is a firmware update so that you can use a dp 1.4 output and cable without issues. Honestly i wasnt getting any problems ere the update other than my g-sync asus monitor's black screen issue which is a few times a year if not any) so there is no hdr through that as many others pointed out. end of story.

As for the hdmi, it is 2.0 so this card natively supports 4k 60 hz WITH HDR without any issues. PC is connected to my DENON X3500h receiver with a certified hdmi 2.0 cable (2 meters long) and my receiver is connected to my Viewsonic PX727-4K (Native 4k hdr capable and hdcp 2.2 compliant) with a paugge hdmi 2.0 certified fiberoptic cable (20 meters long). both the pc and apple tv that is connected to the DENON receiver can send 4k 60 hz hdr signal to the projector without a single issue (other than projector's 3-8 seconds delay when switching between SDR and HDR content which is solely a projector based issue).

Lastly this card has no issues with sending Dolby Atmos signal along with 4k 60hz hdr signal.

What i have pointed out above is %100 accurate so if you cannot get any of the afore mentioned signals specs. etc, the first thing you need to do is to check the hdmi cable's specs, then the output device. As long as your 980ti's sockets are not damaged or something, the card is still viable for 4k 60 hz hdr ONLY through hdmi port.

BUT... If you are planning to up your game by replacing your monitor with a 4k 120 hz g sync "compatible" (NOT native G-sync monitor which has its dedicated processor inside. Monitors such as Asus ROG Swift PG278Q 27" 1ms G-SYNC WQHD still work with the card up to 4k60 hz; 2k 165 hz or 1080p 240 hz but the 980ti cannot reach those fps values anyway unless you are playing Mario or something) tv or a monitor (say LG CX-GX series or upward) then you are bottlenecked to 4k 60 hz HDR with a 980ti through hdmi. DP port gets even less but only because they didnt add HDR and ATMOS support for it, since its bandwith is well above hdmi 2.0. 980ti DP output can still do 4k 60 hz but no HDR or Dolby Atmos and it cannot benefit from G-SYNC "compatible" monitors or tv's.
