need graphics card for 1440p, 165Hz

Hey!

 

I just bought a 1440p, 165Hz monitor from ASUS (ASUS ROG Swift PG278QR 27” 2560x1440 1ms 165Hz) and I'm loving it!

 

Currently, I can only truly play Fortnite at "Ultra/Epic" Settings at 165 Hz in 1440p (w/ a GTX 1060). I am wondering if a GTX 1080 Ti will cover all my needs, or should I wait 20 more days and get the 1180 to run ANY game at "Ultra/Epic" at 144Hz or 165Hz in 1440p. THANKS!

Just keeping this here as a Are you monitoring your frames?  I'd be surprised if your 1060 can keep up with 1440p at 165hz.

Wait for new GPUs to come out. If nothing affordable/powerful comes out, look for either a 1080 or a 1080Ti in the used market or in some deal on shops online.

yes, I am. It says 165 Hz all the time no dips I'm quite surprised.

That's nonsense. Tom's Hardware here tested the GTX1060 and @ 1440p they got 40 FPS average: https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/fortnite-best-performance-benchmarks,5541-3.html

 

You're not on EPIC/High quality settings, or your resolution isn't 1440p for the textures. Can you show us your settings?

To be fair something is really off with that benchmark, my desktop 1060 3gb or my 1050ti(mobile) does more than 65fps @ 1080p

Both your 1050Ti and your 1060 3GB have same FPSs? With everything set to EPIC, including grass as per benchmark?

It's hard to believe that. However, you're probably on Intel, they were on a Ryzen 5 1600X not overclocked, so pretty limiting @ FHD. 

It's still way too off to say that he can run at 1440p 165 FPS stable with everything set to EPIC. I don't think I could even do that with my 1080 Ti.

A much more detailed performance test, with HIGH Quality (much less demanding than EPIC) a GTX1060 6GB has an avg of 112 FPS. How can he possibly do 165 FPS at 1440p? It does less than half than that!

First of all, a Graphic card doesn't run games in "hz".

Even your Intel IGP will be able to run Games in 144 Hz or 165 Hz. How much fps will come out, is a different question.

Second: Then wait a few more years, such a GPU does not exist, not even anywhere close.

 

I have exactly these Specs, and a GTX 1080. If i play GTA 5 completely maxed out, i land at 40 fps~ maybe. Just standing in front of the house after the first mission. Probably will drop below 30 if i go outside the town, etc.

Final Fantasy 15, maxed out: 50~ fps around that, during fighting can drop below 40.

Ghost Recon Wildlands, also below 60.

 

1080 ti, the fastest GPU out there right now, will only manage +20-30% more fps. That's it.

 

Even with 2x Titan Xp (2600€) you will not even close get 144 fps in WQHD, when using your "ultra/epic" settings.

Maybe Games from Today with GPUs from in 5 years in the future. Maybe.

But i can promise you, even the GTX 2080 ti will not manage that.

 

 

I highly suggest you step down from that completely useless thought if "ultra" settings. Not worth. Looks <1% better than High, and takes up 30-50% more performance:

 

 

 

But for Fortnite, you will easy hit 144 fps with a 1080 ti, or 2080~. i hit like 110-115 fps or so in my 3 rounds (before i uninstalled that crap) with a slightly undervolted GTX 1080.

Reduce settings if you need more.

 

But if your Question is just meant as it is written: Every Gaming GPU right now will be able to play every single Game in 144 Hz. because the GPU doesn't care about Hz, only the Monitor refreshes in Hz.

Both are over 65 fps so not the same, and yes intel, i5 4590 and i7 7700hq.

I absolutely agree with you though, there is no way he runs fortnite at 165fps @ 1440p, i was just pointing out that benchmark seems really off to me but to be fair i only played at epic settings when i tried it out since that it's on medium to get around 144fps @ 1080p which is why i know that you are right about his numbers.

I'm on Epic -- it's only in Fortnite. I have literally no reason to lie I have 150 in Fights and 165 Elsewhere
