Can I boost my Hz with downgrading my resulution ?

so basicly I want to buy an 4k ips monitor for productivity,etc. but I also game from time to time and dont care much about the detail. so can I downgrade a 4k ips 60hz monitor to 1080p 100hz ?

The most you can do is overclock the monitor, but even if, the difference will probably only be from 60->MAYBE 75

From 60Hz to 100Hz is not possible as @Slottr already said.

I'd rather suggest to get another gaming monitor or just set 1080p for gaming, but this could not be the best solution.

Or 1440 @ High Refresh to find a middle ground.

On some monitors this is actually possible as long as the controller inside allows it. Don't expect to get much more than 15Hz though.

If the monitor supports it, yes.

 

Very few monitors support it though, so in practice, no.
